In the US:

If you're not scared of ordering from Thailand:

http://www.futurlec.com/ProtoBoards.shtml

I've bought from both of these guys and had good experiences.

The 1M resistor is there just to keep from having an open circuit in the tiny little moments while the switch is between contacts.

I don't think this would sound as good as a VCA because it wouldn't be gradual at all, but I wanted to present the absolute simplest solution to the problem.

If you're dealing with unbalanced connections you could do this really, really simply. All you need is a momentary SPDT (or a DPDT and just use half) switch, two jacks and some wire. Wire the tip connector of the output jack to the center lug of the switch. Wire the tip connector of the input jack t...

Did you send this amp to Kendrick for the blackface conversion? If so, I was probably the one who modded it for you.

My EH12ay7 has always had more gain than I needed so I'm planning on using dual JJ 12AU7s. I'm thinking that having less gain will also extend the signal range somewhat due to less miller capacitance on the grid of the tube. Hopefully, this will sound good. Now I just need a amp repair/amp build job...

What kind of princeton are we talking about? Tweed, Brown, Blackface, Reverb? [EDIT: nevermind, I just reread your post, dumb me] In any case, I'd check it in this order. 1.It could be a speaker problem. Try plugging a differing cabinet into the speaker output. 2.It could be a microphonic tube acous...

Buzzing and not passing signal is not necessarily a busted transformer, it could be a bad ground, a shorted grid input, plenty of things. 1.Try different tubes 2.Open it up and make sure everything looks like it's connected the way it should be, look for shorts, look for burnt resistors, look for th...

Also musical performance has a more objective scale to judge by (is it on time, is it in key, does it have an excessive dynamic range or range of frequencies) than lyrics do. Lyrics are usually intended to invoke a feeling in the listener, how would an unfeeling machine be capable of gauging how wel...

Find a tech that's worth their salt and have one of your tube amps overhauled so that it's quiet enough for your purposes. For the price of getting an ok amp you could probably make one of your good amps into a really great amp.

If I were you, I'd go ahead and change all of the electrolytics in the thing, including bypass caps (the electrolytics coming off of your cathodes) if it has them as long as you're opening it up. You might also want to change the other tubes in the circuit as well. It might be that one of your other...

Re: sound city 50 plus *Weird distorted sound"

From what you've described, I would think that you have a parasitic oscillation. These are usually caused by poor lead dress (the physical arrangement of the wires). It could be other things as well, it might need a cap job, you might have a preamp tube that's very microphonic.

I'm not really familiar with this unit, but most popular preamp tubes used in prosumer gear are dual triodes, meaning that each tube contains two individual gain stages to it. This means that there are most likely six individual gain stages in the preamp, probably split 3 to one channel, 3 to the ot...
