It took me, uh, like, all afternoon. My piano is a Baldwin Acrosonic spinet from the 40's. Kinda cramped inside; that's what made it so difficult for me. Perhaps it would be easier on a larger upright. Also, there's a lot of measuring, trimming/slicing fabric, and crimping the "tack" attachments to...

DAW -> Cassette Adaptor -> DAW
I've been waiting for a good deal on a nice Tascam 4-track... but in the meantime, I had an idea. Maybe I could get a cassette adaptor and a cheap tape player (probably have one already), and running a hot signal to the tape back into my DAW. I'm talking about this thing: http://images.belkin.com/F8...

Damn...I knew that story was too good to be true... Well, John has definitely talked about 'demons' or the '4th dimension', and lots of other strange supernatural stuff. Check out the video 'Funky Monks', it's a documentary of the recording of Blood Sugar Sex Magik, including Rick Rubin sleeping on...

I don't have any stories, but all the little annoying things really add up. Like when I pointed to the cheapest guitar wall-mounts behind the counter, the guy quietly grabs the ones that cost $10 more. I told him "those aren't the right ones... it's the $x ones". Instead of acknowledging his "mistak...

1) When you sit down with your chosen instrument with the intention of composing or experimenting, what normally happens? Do you start by playing particular/familiar chords, melodies? How do you try to access your creative instinct? Like BlueMoonshine, I think I get better results when I'm not tryi...

My experience has been very bad with internal WD drives, they seem to die young and are noisy. I've had good luck with Seagate and Maxtor. I'm very happy with my external 300GB Seagate drive. It spins down on its own after about 5 min. Slightly annoying when you're waiting for it to wake up again, b...

I'm glad this thread came up. I don't have a side chain compressor, but am shopping for a cheap one (RNC probably, haven't checked if the popular Symetrix or dbx have this feature). I understand the sidechain input 'controls' the compressor, but when using it, how do the threshold/attack/release con...

Re: Portable Headphone-like stereo mics
I know the feeling and hate walking around with cameras or microphones when I'm out in public. Check this out: http://members.nuvox.net/%7Ebob/my-mics.pdf

Sorry for dragging this thread on, but it really took me a long time to come up with something that actually made me angry (and didn't just suck). Well, after listening to the Oldies station last week I immediately knew which two bands I really hate: CCR and Steely Dan. CCR, because I hate that guy'...

I'm not sure if driving up and down mountains is any different (maybe the descent in a plane happens faster, it that matters?). But I think you can really damage your ears from flying. Like JASIII I've tried all sorts of crap to stop the awful pain of landing, but my ears just won't equalize. It's b...

Most external hard drives go to sleep after a short period of inactivity. That might be your problem, but I've found that only seems to cause a problem on playback. Try to pay attention to the sounds your drive is making, you'll hear when it goes to sleep ("click, ssshhhh") and when it spins back up...
