Looking for cheap tracking studio/room in Philly area
Looking for a good, inexpensive room to track drums and loud guitars in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area. Myself and another engineer are looking for a space to break out of our respective home studios (we are annoying the wives). We could start our own space, but if there was an already existing ...

Having been there, I can understand wanting the best you can get for the little money you have.... But how discerning do you really think you can be with a great big giant stack of $300? And if $300 is really your maximum and you can't afford a penny more, you have bigger problems than what low-grad...

I also have a pair of the ACM-100s... I seem to remember Chance saying only a few people ordered them, so I don't think there are too many more of us.... But I use mine as stereo room mics and stereo acoustic guitar mics all the time and they really are fantastic. No harshness at all in the top end ...

I'm guilty of being militant about a balanced stereo image. During the main parts of the song, why would I want to be distracted by weird stereo effects? It's one thing to pan a maraca hard right and a tambourine hard left, because to me that balances out the image, albeit with two different sounds,...

I have used a Samson Servo 120a for a few years to run my nearfields (a QSC runs my midfields), and I can honestly say it's really clean. Maybe underpowered for really cranking it, but no noise to speak of. No fans, so it's dead quiet in the control room. Reliable, too. No issues whatsoever, plus it...

Here's what I would do.... get lavalieres like the Shure WL93 (small, lightweight, omnidirectional) if the ones you have aren't like that already. When the actors (kids) are mic'ed up, remove the tie-clip on the mic, run the cable up their backs, and have it come over the ear... then take flesh-tone...

Welcome to the world of combat audio. Work with the lavalieres. Group them all together on the console and insert a channel of graphic EQ on the group. Put them all on people or just get them on stage, all on, and EQ them all together as if they were one mic with the graphic EQ, with the objective b...

I bought one about 2 years ago. It's the standard Chinese long ribbon design. Sounds fine with the stock transformer, in my opinion. I haven't used it on vocals on a recording yet, but on my voice it is extremely thick sounding and smooth. Not a lot of high end though. I use it every drum session as...

I just ordered an EMMA ReezaFRATzitz, which is my first "boutique" pedal. I'll report back when I get it. That said, I do have an original Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde that kicks ass as an overdrive. A little uptight and dry used as a distortion pedal, but lower gain on the first channel sounds real...
