Thanks a lot guys. Austin- digging the tunes man, I'll have to check you out when I get situated. Mobtown- Nice studio. When I scratch together the tunes, I'd like to lay something down, especially if I'm in the neighborhood and all. I'll be in touch. Patterson Park area looks great, close enough to...

Baltimore

I took a position teaching Inner City Youth in Baltimore, and now I'm looking for a place. Anybody know what neighborhoods are decent (won't get shot), cheap, and cool, but not Rolling Stone kinda cool? I've heard good things about Upper Fells Point, Hampden, Penn Station, but you can never be sure....

The basement is a really cool venue. Relaxed and intimate. I saw Peter Case there last year and he busted out the kazoo on a couple songs, and had great banter with jon dee graham. The basement's the kind of place you can do that.

I'll try to make it out.

You might check out the bonus material for "Grizzly Man," the Herzog documentary. Good in studio stuff with Richard Thompson to boot. Not real technical, but valuable just to see how scores work with film, etc.

There's an MXL V67 on eBay now for 5.50. I'd get it, but I already bought a v67g a year ago on the recommendations of the good people @ TOMB. I'm also in songwriter mode (deep voice and acoustic atmospherics), and it's earned its keep many times over for the 40 bucks I paid. +1 on the 57-- get both ...

Top to bottom, it's a great ALBUM. Ray Davies makes the soundtrack to my modernism class. Do yourself a favor and get Village Green. Strange and beautiful stuff, haven't listened to it in weeks and I still end up with the tunes stuck in my head.

I live about a mile from there. There are no less than 10 taco stands in that general vicinity. I've tried them all and they're all about the same. The better ones will give you a grilled jalapeno with your tacos.
Haha. I'm not all that opposed to illegals, as long as they bring with them tacos.

At the end of "Lola," the weird circus drum/ bomb sound. Never heard that until I listened to it on headphones, definitely a WTF!? moment.

Yeah. Beautiful. Her new record is right on, haunting like a good short story. Eerie, sort of thing that make the roomates wonder about you.

And Jim White is on it, c'mon.

Check her out on Mark Lanegan's Bubblegum, and Nick Cave's Murder Ballads.

Flea Market find/ Rewiring to XLR

Well after a summer of wading the BO stench, the flea market paid off. Found an old green bullet with stand for 5 bucks. The element looks great, but the 1-pin mystery plug probably has to go. Anyone know the best way to rewire one of these to XLR? Would I want it Hi or Lo? I'll be using it for reco...

This actually wouldn't be a bad idea for TOMB, as a place to direct those beginning Home Recording to the wealth of information at hand. Don't know how feasible such a thing would be here, but I know it would have kept a few of my dumb newbie posts out of the way.

Thanks for the link.
