hey there so the basic idea behind the patchbay is you want to bring all the connections on the back of the gear to the patchbay so you if for example you want to plug X into Y, you do it on the patchbay, and not on the actual gear. the first thing you want to do is bring all the connections from th...

small tube amps are great. if you poke around ebay, check out vintage mono power amps by companies like bogen, heathkit, etc. basically same tube lineup as guitar amps, and they can be had for cheap. they usually require a recapping, but it is not so bad because the old stuff is usally hand wired po...

in the arrange window, if you hit command+enter, it will duplicate the track you have selected. so then you you can choose which copy of the track to record on to. mute all the takes except the one you want to play back. if you record in loop mode, it will build a duplicate track for each pass. if y...

awesomeness

this book rules. it seems like a bargain at $100. it weighs like 10lbs!

i jumped straight to the last section. the break downs of each session is amazing, worth the price of admission alone.

digesting all this info is going to take a long time.

here's what i've been realizing lately. a well balanced, well mastered mix makes you want to turn the music up up up. a poorly done overlimited mix makes you want to turn the music down down down. it's really easy to listen to good mixes at loud volumes. the overlimited ones sound like syringes in m...

funny, i wouldn't describe the sound of Ghost Is Born as tight, but instead 'loose'. as in a group of people playing together, allowing for the ebb and flow of tempo and dynamics as they happen naturally. of course, as a unit they are still tight, and the performances are tight, but for me, the styl...

i love all the police records. the early ones have that awsome raw but well recorded energy. the police records are a definite case of the sound coming 100% from the musicians. stewart copeland's snare sound is on the short list of "ultimate snare".
