Re: Help me to defeat the compromised engineers of Boss/Rola

I don't have a Loop Station because I really did want a delay, with a modest looping function--loops are only a small part of my show, which is mostly singer-songwritery. I used to have an Akai Headrush, but it was the noisiest thing on my pedalboard. I could go for the Line 6, but I'll stick with t...

Re: FMR RNP opinions?

Don't have the RNP (yet), I just need to tell Dot that he's got the best avatar on this board. Don't want to encounter him with that oar in some dark alley!

Help me to defeat the compromised engineers of Boss/Roland!!

I just bought the new Boss DD-20 Giga Delay for my studio and live rig. It's pretty great, actually, but here is what I just wrote on the "Customer Service" section of my Harmony-Central customer review. See what you think: "It took me about five minutes to get a human on the phone [at Boss]. What I...

Re: cheap synth

I second the CZ-101, they're under $100 on eBay. New, consider the MicroKorg--it's got the same guts as the MS2000 but it's also got a vocoder and it's really tiny, which is something I like (and part of what I like about the CZ-101), and cheaper.

Re: Your favorite recorded guitar part ever?

Guitar solo on "Sheetkickers," from Guided By Voices' "Under the Bushes" album (actually the ep the came with it). Comes in big and sloppy like a giant dog, I love it!

Re: Making electronic piano sound REAL (or just good enough.

Reverb? Like, hall reverb? I am not a conoisseur of real piano sounds, and in fact I use that old Yamaha piano module, I can't remember the name, on which only a few settings sound good. But in my opinion, if you stick a piano in a hall, the mind thinks it is a piano. Ultimately, though, I tend to n...

I miss the little burning file folder.

It isn't that I don't like this new site--I love it. But can the burning file folder come back? Man, when that baby caught fire... now THAT was a discussion topic!

Wanted: Nady (really!) PS-022 3-band Parametric EQ Stompbox

This is the one with the sliders and colored knobs. Bid on one on eBay, won, but didn't meet the reserve--then the seller reposted as Buy It Now at a price UNDER my winning bid...and someone else bought it! What's up with that? Anyway, lemme know if you want to get rid of one, or the PS series Phaser.

Re: Portable setup for collecting sounds

I like the old Sharp minidisc player I have; it's supposed to be 24-bit and does sound that way to me. I use the usual $75 Sony stereo mic, and run the results through the Aphex 204 to restore some of the harmonics. The Big Bottom really helps. I do go analog to my recorder, it's not that much of a ...

Re: Boring clean guitar sound...Help.

I got a 1967 Gibson Skylark T, Crestline model, for $185 on eBay, and it sounds as different from my Tweed Deluxe copy (dark) as it's possible to sound. Very bright and crisp--you could use it alone (or something like it) or split the signal to both amps. Your amp tech will scream--it's hard to get ...

Chopping up some Hosa TS cables to make 1/4-inch 18v power cables for my 1980's DOD Performer-series stompboxes (which by the way are absolutely awesome).

Re: T.C. electronic m300

I'm just a dabbler, but so far I love mine. The subtler reverbs are the best--"Ambience", and the vocal and drum rooms. I don't mind the other effects either, and I especially appreciate the layout--nothing but knobs, and the signal passes from left to right. Seriously, that "Ambience" is terrific. ...

Re: anbody tried the electro harmonix black finger comp.

Are we talking about the old Black Finger or the new one? Totally different circuits, I think. The "reissue" as a 12ax7 in it. To answer the hijacker, I have the reissue Holy Grail reverb. I think it's terrific--I just set it on top of my Tweed Deluxe copy as a sort of outboard reverb tank. Both Spr...

Re: live setup

Have you considered getting the Highlander pickup/condenser mic system installed? That way you have more control over the guitar sound--mixing the piezo (or not) and mic and setting your own volume. I don't have this myself but have fooled around with it a lot at the guitar store & think it sounds p...
