I liked all the recording notes in the Endless Wire album literature. Pity the album wasn't a little better... I agree, the liner notes are cool, and I dig how Pete has embraced the whole interweb dealy. And yes, I too found the new album underwhelming at first, but it's growing on me. I quite like...

I have a G4 Quicksilver with only 1 CPU that is one noisy b@stard. I also record acoustic guitar and vocals in my 1-room studio. Luckily I moved to an attic space last year and was able to set up my Mac and other fan sprouting gear in the hallway. Best thing I've ever done. It's not just the recordi...

Ok, that's cool. Plugins are a wild card though, and recording multiple tracks also.subatomic pieces wrote:you can do 32 tracks easily with firewire or usb 2.0 harddrives.
I'll add that I'm on a G4 with a single 966 CPU w/512 MB of RAM.
Also note the differences between USB 1.0 and 2.0, and between FW 400 and 800.

Re: Need advice on what harddrives i need (motu)
Keep in mind bus speed also. Avoid USB. Firewire seems to work for people, but usually the internal IDE bus is much faster. It's more of a hassle installing the drive though, and you can't take it to another studio. I've had pretty good luck running DP 4.61 (OSX 10.4.x) on the same internal IDE driv...

and the word you keep searching for is "Burnett". And his new solo record, The True False Identity, is a recording masterpiece IMHO. Not every song is brilliant, but every little production detail is, not to mention consistently stunning guitar playing from Marc Ribot. Back to the topic, I'm a weak...

learn to talk with them... they'll work out great. Hey whatever works, good on you. I don't think the issue is that you can't get a deal (see original post), or even that their stores are often full of heinous noodlers (to be fair that's not limited to GC). For me the issue is: for less than savvy ...

Check the package too. I had picked out the Strat I wanted and played it for a while. It felt right. In between the time I put it down and paid for it, the f*ckers had swapped in a different guitar. They looked both surprised and sheepish when I demanded the original back. I've had my problems at G...

Lots of DAT machines have aes/ebu in/out. Like the tascam da-30, which you can pick up pretty cheap on ebay. On mine, I could put it in pause and it would pass signal from the analog in to aes/ebu output. Ya, I second that. I use my DA/30 in a similar manner, S/PDIF out of my audio card for monitor...

Oh and BAM, it seems I can only verify/repair disk if its a disk that doesn't have the OS. The system OS disk I can only vrify/repair permissions. Is this right? That's correct, Disk Utility will grey out the "repair disk" option on the startup disk. So just run "verify disk", and it will tell you ...

i'm running live with the buffer at over a thousand samples <snip> Tweak that one. Turn it way down, or cut it in half. Maybe Live is trying to keep that buffer full to the detriment of other stuff. Browser beachballs aren't that unusual. Myspace crashes could be just javascript nonsense. Explorer/...

Any oppinions on a total disk erase? Thanks again. I don't know Live at all, but perhaps there are some preferences that can be tweaked to reduce the load? As far as a disk erase, that's a tough call. In general, if you're *not* having other problems (disappearing icons, random crashes, corrupt fil...
