Signals confusion
Hello everyone, If an active instrument outputs a line level signal, wouldn’t this be compromised going into the front of an amp as the amp is expecting to see an instrument level? And if not, then plugging a synth or a mixing board straight would be acceptable? Isn’t re-amping necessary to convert ...

Re: Can excessive preamp gain damage ribbon mic?
I wear Mopad adult diapers when tracking so resonating farts are taken out out of the equation.
I did a shoot out (shit out?) with and without I posted over on gear sluts years ago.
The results were surprising….

Can excessive preamp gain damage ribbon mic?
Hello all, Hope everyone is doing well. I purchased a new Beyer m160 and I brought the pre amp gain up to 75. I was micing a resonator guitar and there was no chance of air blasts, but I was getting a farty kind of sound, like the ribbon was overextended? It sounded ok after backing off the gain, bu...

Re: Daking service
The issue was that I had the power supply laying on a Adcom power amp in conjunction with a channel that wasn’t loaded by a mic which also had a compressor on it. When the level was cranked, I was experiencing hum in channel four.. And now I know! And yeah, the response time was within an hour after...

Daking service
Hello all, I just wanted to post my recent experience with their company and customer service. I sent a mic pre iv in for service, and to my surprise, there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Great news there! From the moment I contacted them, I immediately was in touch with a tech via email who ...

Re: Does the DAW interface I want exist?
Wasn’t sure how to edit above post, just wanted to add the DUREC usb recording option available on the unit itself which allows all inputs to be recorded.

Re: Does the DAW interface I want exist?
I would look at RME UFX. Usb or FireWire, 12 line inputs, 4 of which are mic pres, 2 separate ADAT ports, s/pdif available over AES. The included TotalMix and Digicheck software are excellent. The unit just works great! I’m a fan, I have 2 separate units on two different computers, mostly just becau...

Re: Best mic for acoustic in live setting?
Thanks to all for the informed opinions and links. The acoustic being used is a mid level Takamine with the under saddle piezo into a 50 watt Marshall acoustic amp. I do remember liking the sound of the Dean Markley Woody slip in pickups more than the piezo now that my memory was jogged. I sent my s...

Best mic for acoustic in live setting?
We are a 4 piece w/ drums, bass, elec guitar, and singer who plays acoustic. We have been using an acoustic amp but would like a more realistic tone and wanted to try micing instead. So, considering monitor feedback, would it be best to use a hypercardioid, figure 8, cardioid? Possibly a DI straight...
