Re: Computer Soundproofing for Dummy
I have the same problem with computer noise while tracking, and am looking in to getting a KVM Extender. Here is an example: http://www.kvm-switches-online.com/gce700.html This allows you to have your computer in one room, and another monitor, mouse and keyboard in another room. The main computer a...

Re: Computer Soundproofing for Dummy
The ducting in a well designed iso boxes leads air through a series of right angled and U-turned tunnels before reaching the intake/output fans. It's the U-turns and right angles that keep the sound in, as much as possible, while letting the air in and out yup. but a computer doesn't make that much...

Re: Computer Soundproofing for Dummy
" Have you actually done this? How do you duct the fans? If they aren't ducted properly, you're either going to overheat your cpu, or end up not have done anything about noise." Ducting the fans was simple. hole saw and cpu fans with a bit of filtration material over the intake fan. i've got 4 fans...

Re: Computer Soundproofing for Dummy
it's cheap and pretty easy to build yourself a box....even if you don't have access to many tools. they'll cut plywood for you at home depot/lowes/etc... maybe cuts cost 50 cents or something but it'll be worth it. screw the top/bottom to the sides hinges for the doors, and line it with a couple la...

Re: Computer Soundproofing for Dummy
Greetings! I finally bought a suped-up Power Mac (Quicksilver, Dual 800) and need some help. It's not crazy loud, but it has the hum and fan noise you'd expect from a fast computer. And, like most of us here, I have to track, monitor and mix in the same room. My vocals usually suck anyway, but the ...

Re: Day jobs and time management
... Yeah, that's a good idea. Unfortunately, that seems to be where my wife and I spend much of our quality time together. We try to keep it to specific shows, though. 24, Survivor, umm, a few others I can't recall now. But I've thought of cutting it out totally. Really my wife's more of a TV junki...

Moving to surround sound
Hi all, I'm currently working on a project that I'm eventually going to be delivering in surround sound format. Are there any online resources you can recomend for discussion of surround mixing techniques? Initially, my newbie questions are going along the lines of: - placement of stereo sources in ...

Re: Isoraxx, Silence Case, or Mini-pc?
Thanks for the info. I've been putting my computer in the closet and it's still really loud. let us know what you end up doing and if it was worth it. I worked in a studio that had an "isolation rack" and it didn't seem to do that much. We ended up keeping the door open on the rack because it got r...

Re: A lifetime of absolutely worthless music
I'll play the devil's advocate: what examples could you give of new experimental music that is really different than or uses ideas or methods not found in Karlheinz' work somewhere ? I'd wager for anyone you can name, I can name a piece by Stocky that uses those elements or ideas, before they did. ...

Re: A lifetime of absolutely worthless music
I'm of the opinion that about one person in one hundred will listen almost anything (inclusive of anything not within a known commercial radio format). It is a subset of these people who like classical atonalism and serialism, and a subset of them that can find joy in such music. People are weird l...

Re: What a difference a matinence day makes
if your cheap equipment has contact problems, its worth doing. metal oxidizes at the same rate in cheap or expensive stuff, the elements dont have that gear snob thing. I wish those deoxit cans had like, half spray strength, too much stuff comes out even on the lowest setting. I usually spray on a ...

Re: I'm looking for a replacement for Emagics Tape Delay plu
PSP84 agreed. But: Get the original. Works faster. Sounds better. And: Why not buying a Roland 505/555 or an Echolette?? Both sound awesome. i use a 505 and an Echolette sometimes. of course it can't beat the editing convenience of a plug, but the sound is definately way better. As long as you have...
