FS: NYC: Serpent SB4001 stereo bus comp

Selling my Serpent SB4001 SSL-style 500 series compressor. This thing absolutely rules. It's great as a mix bus comp, but also shines on drum bus, tracking overheads, and drum rooms. Surprisingly, it's fantastic on vocals, too, where the extra features give you a lot of control. I'm selling it becau...

Dear god, what did you do to the 87? I've had one in front of a kick a couple times and it's never sounded that screwed up.

I've been mixing on a Neve 8816 for the last 6 months and I generally like it over ITB mixing. However, there's one very simple and very necessary thing one cannot do with a summing amp that one can do easily on a board - subgroups. For example, let's say I want to compress kick, snare, and then sen...

FS: Royer R-122 and RSM-1 Shockmount - $1250

It pains me to do this, but I'm selling my Royer R-122. I love it, it sounds great, and it's in fantastic condition (mint, like new). The studio I recently started working out of has many ribbon mics and I need some more comps, so it's time for it to go. I won't go on about the sound of this mic as ...

Check out Liberty Guitars. I recorded one and it sounded absolutely incredible, great depth of tone. I believe they're very affordable, but I'm not sure exactly what they cost.

What's the point of an all-vinyl release for an all-digital recording?

I like the music.

I think what I was getting at is really the different wave lengths and their positive and negitave sides ariving differently because of the space between. Not really the speed but the frequency of hitting a certain point. So a 400hz tone will hit the mic four times as one wave of 100 hz tone hits i...

Different frequencies, with different wavelengths, travel at different speeds. Are you sure about that? The speed of sound can be calculated by wavelength times frequency, but is not dependent on either value. Because frequency is an inverse function of wavelength, any change to either value will s...

Put a large set of keys inside the hi-hats, with the keyring around the post. It'll dampen some of the ring without sounding shitty. Makes no logical sense, try it.

You say you're recording direct to digital, what exactly are you recording to? Are you running at 24-bit? There's really no reason to compress on the way in for dynamic reasons. If you're looking for a specific sound, then why not? But I think in this case you're just looking to control signal level...

FS: Blue Sky System Ones

Hi all, I have a set of Blue Sky System One monitors up for sale. For those of you not familiar, the BSSO's are a 2.1 system utilizing a 12" sub and two satellites each with a 6.5" woofer and a 1" tweeter. The satellites are biamped by two 100-watt RMS amps, while the sub is powered by a single 200-...

Uh, what is the sample on your page actually of? All the mics? One? Was there any processing done to that other than what was done at tracking?

Am I the only one who thinks it sounds pretty terrible?
