Re: Cool Edit Pro difficulties

If you're taking your guitar straight in, you'll need a direct box. Don't worry about numbers. One of those whirlwind IMP's should work nicely for $30ish.

Re: Drugs Suck Whale Balls

I consider drugs a lifestyle EQ of sorts... And no, I'm not much for purism (though I highly respect it). I avoid anything that can't be taken straight from the Earth, and I will pay whatever price I will have to pay.

To those who can chug on without them, I applaud you.

Re: i'm at a loss for words

Hey, all is fair in love, war, and shopping. They need to hire some big dudes with "security" shirts to guard the merch. "Sorry grandma, you got no stamp."

Ahhhhh.... The fruits of the shopping season. There should have been a flag on that play.

Re: Vocal effect ON STAGE?

And yes, it certainly can be done. If you have a permanent sound guy and your own PA, it might actually be quite easy. But if I was running sound at an average generic rock club on an average generic rock club's PA (read: shitty), and someone wanted overdrive/distortion on their vocals in the monito...

Re: Cables, Cables, Cables

Check out Redco audio. Great cables, reasonable prices (same cost as Hosa cables at GC), great people. See the add in TapeOp. Never had a bad experience.

Re: Keyboard Sounds That Must DIE!!!!

Shitty-ass piano sounds. I have yet to hear a realistic sounding non-piano. ESPECIALLY in the live sound world, where guys will always bring their b-grade keyboard.

Plastic piano. Might as well say Fischer-Price.

Re: Stereo system for a coffee shop...

No, you have to have quality control. If you want a CD put into random rotation, for the duration of your stay, it has to be clean. You could even install a ghetto voting mechanism where if enough patrons don't like an album, it gets banned. Or, you could just require that any album be produced by T...

Re: bad weather and being sick

Hot showers can do wonders. I just got over whatever the hell that was (flu?) and damn, three hot showers a day probably shaved three days off my recovery time. That and smoking twice as many cigs as usual tends to help. :hammer: Texas weather is, indeed, damn crazy. I read a story once where a psyc...

Re: Vocal effect ON STAGE?

My advice: a) Split the vocal signal into two channels, one that goes ONLY to FOH and one that goes ONLY to the monitors. Leave the monitors relatively dry, and you *should* be able to do whatever the hell to FOH you want. b) Use In-ears. Expensive, but very effective. That way you get to hear exact...

Re: Stereo system for a coffee shop...

You could check into getting a juke box in there... IINM, they don't cost anything and they'll give the employees a volume control... Of course, the new boxes play mp3's anyway, so they should be paying us to have to listen to that crap... Another route would be to get a nice little home stereo rece...

Re: Holy Flying Pooballs!!!

Holy shit. Scary how much something can be so simultaneously amusing and annoying. BTW, if anyone cares I feel waaaaaaay better and decided that my ex-girl will just have to live with her weak willpower and I'll have to hook up with a different ex for rebound purposes. I can do that because I don't ...

Re: Mics should be like guitar pedals...

Why not take it all a step further and do guitar pedals that have built-in mics that also double as a 24-track hard disk recorder? I dunno. Perhaps mics are significantly more tedious to manufacture than a circuit board in a metal box. Just a guess. Reminds me: I ran into the guy that does all of th...

Re: need help on this decision. . .

Personally, I generally prefer unlimited cheap media for backups (cheap as in DVDR's opposed to 80 GB SCSI drives). Figure out your cost/ GB and work from there. Cool thing about optical media is that it's cheap enough to make clones viable (ie, backups in triplicate if necessary). You should be abl...

Re: Getting Audio from a Cassette to a Computer

Yes, you're going to have to give us as many details as possible. Describe the sound. I assumer you're taking RCA (-10) outs of the Portastudio. How does that connect to the soundcard? Is the sound quality significantly different when you play the tape as opposed to the computer?

Details.
