My biggest problem is my room acoustics. I know you're supposed to monitor at low volumes with poor acoustics, but does the same go for guitar recording? My situation right now is that I can't really use ambient mics, I get this really "shell" like sound. It doesn't sound very good. I was thinking L...

Wow, I had no idea about the Spector dirt. What kind of stuff was he into? Wait a minute, wasn't Phil Spector hailed by everyone in the 60's? If my memory is correct, I think Brian Wilson was really into Phil Spectors sound and stuff. It's a shame that he put himself in the position to be "De-specto...

Yoko co-produced alot of John Lennon's solo stuff. Yoko, being John Lennon's wife, knew John better than anyone. I'd hope that she was consulted in making decisions about who to get for the project, and how to go about it. Yoko was present during the making of most of those albums, and she knew what...

Hell yeah! That idea is HEAPS GOOD!!! This is the stuff I like to hear!! Ok, for songwriting, I use a Yamaha MT4X 4-Track recorder. I usually record guitar, bass, drum machine, and vocals on this, and mix it down to another cassette. Allthough this is just for songwriting, I take advantage of the fa...

"Lose half of what's there" meaning the signal that was originally put onto magnetic tape. I was referring to the generation loss that takes place when transfering to digital from an analog source. Sound quality gets lost when transfering analog to digital. (Though you may already know that, I thoug...

Ok, what I have been doing is quantizing the kick and snare, and programming the rest without quantization. Then I go back and step edit the velocity, to make it sound less "robotic". I really want to focus on changing the sound of the drums. You know? Like run the kick through a 1176LN and the snar...

John Lennon Remix & Remaster
So they remixed John Lennon's albums in digital, and digitally remastered them. From what I understand, if you take analog and transfer it to digital, you lose half of what's there (or at least alot of it). I was thinking that they'd better use some serious ass firepower for the A/D conversion, Digi...

Oh, I didn't think you'd make a DAW video, I was just throwing that out there. Not sure why. But yes, the sync button was confusing for me for a second. It's only on 3 head multitracks, right? Speaking of 3 head, can I do tape echo with the Tascam 38? Or do I need external devices? A guitar troubles...

I tried to mod my Boss GE-7 eq pedal with a mod kit off of ebay. It went horrible. I seriously do NOT know how to switch out op-amp chips. I think a soldering video would rock it hard. Seriously. People who use DAW's...I don't think they need a video, at all. The manual for those things explain thin...

Ok, I got the manual in and it gave me a whole lot of info. Few questions: Is one of my tension arms supposed to be a little angled or "leaning"? The whole back of the tape machine was damaged in shipping, so anything is possible. I'm guessing a definate recalibration, maybe something else here and ...

Awsome, cool. This is gonna work. The Isopropyl stuff cleaned most of the dirt and grime off. It just left a film. I'm not a doctor or anything, but I think that this thing might be alright with a calibration and a good demagnatizing (I'm goin' with the han-d-mag). My stupid manual hasn't got here y...

Oh shit.... Ok, so I went out to the market and got 99% Isopropyl and cleaned everything with it, save for the pinch roller, I soaked that in hot water. The top of the heads, where the tape touches the head, is shiny. All around it is a brown rust colour. Should there be black anywhere on the head, ...
