XY... one on top of the other, as in one hanging down from the shockmount angled 90 degrees. in the corner of the room. besides piano and "hifi toms", i think this is my favorite application for them!

I disagree. I think you should just have the vocals going in that section. Sounds great that way. This debate also goes on in my mind... sometimes plugins make me feel nauseous... i've heard similar things sometimes with plugin compressors, too, strange modulated density that really affects me on a physical level. again, not always, but when it happens it is REALLY a weird sensation... i feel like i have to yawn or clear my ears or ...
