I would love an re-55 but they're pricey. Going for $500+ now.

Re: Buck Owens show--impressed by the sound of the EV 666

Ah ha ha, I actually have a 635a, I use it all the time. One of my best $35 purchases ever. Useful on anything harsh/screechy, like loud distorted guitar amps. Shakers, percussion. I like it on my voice. I play in a band with a flute player, it's great for flute. I don't think it's lo-fi especially,...

Re: Buck Owens show--impressed by the sound of the EV 666

Great, thank you. I can get my hands on a 421 pretty easily, I'll try that. All that said, I find everything in the 666 family has a similar vibe. 664, re15, pl6, re20 all have a family resemblance and if you don't need the extended low end of the re20 and 666 there are lots af easily available and ...

Just to get back to the original question:

are there other kind of 'hi-fi'-ish dynamics that would do the same kinda thing as the 666 does here? IE, backed off a bit, catching the acoustic guitar and multiple voices, sounding nice.
The Heil stuff has been mentioned--any other ideas?

Re: Buck Owens show--impressed by the sound of the EV 666

I don't believe I've ever seen a 665. 666s and 664s yes, but not that one--I'll take a look. It doesn't have to be an actual 60's EV, I'm just looking for something similar that would work well in this application. What would you call that mic position, anyway? It's not close but it's but it's not a...

Buck Owens show--impressed by the sound of the EV 666

I was just watching this episode of the Buck Owens show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOj9Bf1P3Ww Apart from the fantastic pink sequined suits I was struck by how Buck appears to be playing guitar and singing with Don Rich all into what I believe is a single EV-666, kind of at a distance, and I l...

Ah, this is great, thank you all. I'm gonna keep hunting on ebay for a copy of the LP, now I'm even more curious.

This does make me wish I had a space that I could do some real acoustic treatments on...hmmm...

Thanks--that's what I was thinking, I'm glad I'm not totally off-base. I'm going to look more into sound treatment on the deader side of things...I guess I like that sound! And yes, I'm trying to track down a copy of the actual record itself--there might be some info on there. I tried writing the gu...

Please help me analyze the sound of this early 80's track

I doubt that this will be of interest to more than a handful of people here, if that, but: I was browsing a post on the WFMU blog archives and ran across a track from an oddball private press record from the early 80's--I guess you'd have to call it "new wave Christian choral/rock"? So if that doesn...

Update--no happy ending. Peluso has made multiple promises to return the mic to me, none of which have been fulfilled. I (to my regret now) paid an invoice for repairs but I still don't have my mic. He has had it since September '08.

Not sure how to resolve this.

mixer w. a Tascam 234

I just acquired a Tascam 234 in good condition...but I don't have a mixer of any kind to use with it. For the time being I'm just gonna dump the tracks into the computer and mix that way, but I'd kind of like a small mixer to use with the thing...a good one...like 8 channels, decent eq, some routing...
