Ok here's mine. I wanted to make an actual nice recording of this but I'm out of time, so here instead is a charming phone demo.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
I do think these are gone now, you can’t even search for the item on monoprice anymore. They seem to be sold out everywhere except Amazon which has them at $88 apiece. Guess I missed the boat on these. There are a number of complaints in the amazon reviews about QC problems & noisy electronics, did...

Chess Records - South Cottage Grove Ave. studio
Wonder if anyone here has seen session pics from the first Chess Records studio? I gather they moved to 2120 S Michigan Ave in 1957, but I've been listening to this a bunch and it's from '54, so I guess it was recorded at the S. Cottage Grove studio and I can't find a lot of info about it: https://y...

Re: My old MOTU is on its last legs -- strong opinions on interfaces welcome
From what I understand, drivers and processing power in your computer have greater impact on latency than the USB connection. A lot of folks really like that ultralight mk5, seems like a great option for staying portable but having the ability to expand I/O when you need it. That is good to know (I...

Re: My old MOTU is on its last legs -- strong opinions on interfaces welcome
Thanks, Dave. That clarifies a lot for me, actually - I didn't realize that USB-C didn't imply a faster transfer speed than USB2, so...that's one less thing to worry about. On PC MOTU is solid, RME might be a little better but the cost reflects it. USB2 is fine for audio. Having good drivers is key,...

Re: My old MOTU is on its last legs -- strong opinions on interfaces welcome
if you haven't already, also check though the Tape Op gear reviews -- https://tapeop.com/reviews/gear/ there have been quite a few interfaces reviewed in the last year or so. Yes indeed, that's where I read about the Cranborne in fact. There are so many, though, I was interested in hearing about pe...

Re: My old MOTU is on its last legs -- strong opinions on interfaces welcome
*reminiscing* Years ago, prior to the MOTU, I had a PCI card interface installed in a desktop machine. It had a little breakout cable with 4 line TRS inputs and outputs. I used it with the same external pre's I used with my rackmount 4 track, and I felt like stuff that I recorded with it was maybe a...

Re: My old MOTU is on its last legs -- strong opinions on interfaces welcome
Oh interesting -- thanks, though I should have mentioned, I'm on a windows laptop now (rather than Mac), but I wonder if I could kludge something together. regardless of the fact that they had (in years past) had some horrible tech-support habits, I can't say enough good stuff about my Antelope Orio...

Re: My old MOTU is on its last legs -- strong opinions on interfaces welcome
I did look at the 1248...it looks great but my current laptop has USB-C rather than Thunderbolt. I think most of the MOTU stuff is Thunderbolt now? Which might be a problem.

My old MOTU is on its last legs -- strong opinions on interfaces welcome
I've used the same MOTU 8Pre since 2009. It still (mostly) works, but it's firewire-only...back when I bought it I didn't anticipate that firewire was going away, and my ancient macbook with the firewire port sometimes wants to boot up, sometimes doesn't, and is generally acting like it's contemplat...
