Thank you all for the glorious suggestions! Sorry I didn't catch up with everyone, I've been busy with weddings the past few weeks. I gave up on the mixing for a bit to let it sit and stew, but I'll be attacking it this week since I finally got the film to go along with the sound. I'll post links up...

Thanks for the ideas! I will try the phase reversal later this evening to see if it does much. The bleed doesn't bother me that much, it's just trying to figure out a way for the vocals to punch more when they come in, because right now they are just buried. It might be something I'll have to live w...

Tips on mixing vocals on a live recording

I recorded a live show this past weekend, and I'm having trouble getting the vocals to shine through without destroying the quality of the drum sound. To put it simply, the drums are bleeding through the vocal mic (SM58), and the singer wasn't real consistent with his volume level. All the audio fee...

Thank you all! After trashing prefs and making sure I was at the correct sampling rate, voila! Everything appeared.

Thanks again.

Sync Digi 003 with Profire 2626

I have been scratching my head with this one. I wish to expand my PTLE rig to have 16 XLR input channels for a live recording coming up in a month. I went and bought at Profire 2626 to link through ADAT pipes and give me the extra 8 channels. I can get the 2626 to recognize the word clock coming fro...

Best Computer Language course to start learning DSP?

Hello all! I am looking to take a few computer language courses to start learning DSP. I have some knowledge of writing code, but not as in depth as I would like.

Where should I start? C? C+? C++? Java?

Thanks!

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. Alas, I cannot place fades at the beginning and end of tracks because it is a classical piece and should not fade in/out after each movement. I am going to continue to try tomorrow, but have a safety mastering sessiong booked with a friend tomorrow evening if I c...

Clicks between tracks burning from Peak 5.2

I am having a problem with a CD that needs to be continuous and when I burn from Peak, I get tiny clicks on the CD where the track markers are. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a remedy?

Thanks!

Hard Drive rotation

I was doing an on location recording last night, and Pro Tools kept giving me an error message saying that my hard drive was not spinning fast enough to read the data. I am running a MBP with a Digi003 and PT 8. The hard drive is 7800rpm. All AC from the wall is going through a Furman Merit Power Co...

If you are looking for a great off-pitch vocalist that is still making music, check out Tim Kinsella.
He has a plethora of music and bands to follow. Cap'n Jazz, Owls, Make Believe, Joan of Arc, and his solo stuff.

Adjusting input gain on MBox

I am running a 1K tone at 0dBfs from my board into a Mbox line in with the preamps at the lowest they can be, and my levels do not match at all. Left channel is hanging out around -12dB and the Right channel is fluttering around -16dB. Anyone know how to zero out and calibrate an MBox or within ProT...

I record classical piano on pretty much a daily basis as an engineer at Juilliard. Is the recording taking place in a studio or a concert hall? If it is in a small enclosed space, I would tend to limit the reflections of the sound waves and use a not-so-wide stereo pair such as a NOS pair. However, ...

The tabs are not in anti-recording mode either. I have only one tape that works, but it was recorded on a DA-88 originally. That is why this is confusing me. The machine works, and the tapes should work with any of the DTRS machines, but alas, I am having this problem.
