I used to see lots of dirt-cheap USB drives that double as MP3 players. Typically just drag the music files onto them--no software required. You'll obviously need to convert to MP3 first. You'll also need a suitable cable to go from the 3.5mm headphone jack to whatever you're plugging into. Here's a...

What EQ would you recommend on the vocals?
An 18dB cut, from 200Hz-4kHz should sweeten up the vocals a bit.

No, I haven't, but that sounds like a great idea. I'm gonna give that a try next time.

I also find this puzzling, that having all the ambience cancel out is considered to be mono compatible. I suppose it's technically compatible, but hardly desirable. If I was striving for mono compatibility, I would prefer if some ambience was retained when the L and R are summed into mono.

We used to be able to get it at our local music stores in Vancouver (that's how I first became aware of TapeOp), but sadly, I have not seen it here in many months.

@vxboogie From what I recall, the plugs I have were designed with the -15s in mind and they are supposed to be the flattest of the three. I use mostly the -9 or the -15 and I find them both to be pretty flat. I have not done any serious testing to compare them, but in casual use I can't tell any dif...

I've got the custom molded ones, with three different attenuators (-9, -15 & -25). Highly recommended. I'm much more likely to use them than the foam ones, since they have a fairly flat response. Unfortunately, I got them after the "horse had left the barn". It took me about a year to stop hearing m...

There are some plugins that will take a stereo track, encode it into M/S, let you adjust the mid/side balance and then decode it back to stereo-all at once. Basically acts as a kind of stereo enhancer.

Voxengo has a free plugin that does that, among other things.

Not sure what the part is either, but the gain control on the RNP is some kind of 12-position rotary switch (not sure how many poles) with a skinny shaft.

Agree that FMR is probably the best source--likely not an off-the-shelf part.

After a fall, I would be inclined to push down a bit on the two socketed chips, just to make sure they are firmly seated in their sockets.

To my eyes, the caps look okay.

I would rather have people create their own (possibly amateurish) music than merely be mindless consumers of commercially produced product. They will likely become better informed music consumers in the process. In many times and places, art was something people just did. Not for monetary gain or fa...

Somewhere back there SDL mentioned that:
"It's an archival project for hundreds of lectures recorded on cassette tape."

Presumably has lots of inputs available in order to be able to transfer from 15 cassette decks at once.

Interesting site that sells the fabric shielding.

Some of their products seem to be targeting the "tin foil helmet" people.

Typical filter capacitors arrangement: -Use one large electrolytic, several thousand microfarad: 2200, 3300 or 4700uF etc. -Make sure the cap's voltage rating exceeds the power supply voltage. -Make sure to connect according to the polarity markings on the cap. -Use one regular .1uF (non-polarized)....
