Finished up tracking the first CD by a punk band called the Dead Livers... first time I've ever recorded metalophone for a punk record (hell, first time I've ever recorded a metalophone!!!) made "rough copies" of their 22 songs for them... what a chore... now for the "real" mixes... too much work ah...

I got a 6-piece Slingerland kit from '65 off some kid for $100 earlier this year... they sound SOOOOOO much better than my late '90s Tama Rockstars... sadly, eBay is a good source for drums on the cheap if you buy them one at a time (not complete kits)... $600 is very reasonable for a good old (alth...

er, lemme be totally clear on the situation... your direct line was a direct from the amp, right, and hence, already fuzzed up? That was my understanding, and that the problem was not getting the tone of the bass and guitars to sit well together, but rather, to try and establish some sort of attack...

Thanks for all the advice... I assumed I'd have to hack away the low end of the guitars... I've got two guitars (one panned hard left, one hard right) and the bass down the middle and it sounds "big", you just really don't hear the bass at all when the guitar is playing (which in punk rock is pretty...

Distorted bass...

I just got done tracking a band that uses really distorted bass (all the time in a punk rock setting, so no space between notes or anything) and I'm having a hrad time giving it th same feel in the mix that it has live (it's not a big rig or anything, just a 15" combo, but it still kinda kicks you i...

I've got two spare 12" Slingerland toms from 1965... one is still pretty much intact and the other (though may be missing a lug or two) still has both rims and is stripped and re-stained (and missing badge)... I'd part with THAT one pretty cheap... if you wanted the complete tom, a little more (funn...

Here's something goofy... I just (a month ago) tracked a little solo song and for giggles i ONLY mic'd the bottom's of the toms... got rid of a lot of cymbal wash and I only had to put a slight bump in the highs for them to sound "right"... of course I DID spend about 15 minutes per tom tuning it wi...

FS: M-Audio DMP3 2-channel pre - BRAND NEW! $140

I have two of these and have never even opened one of them (still has plastic wrap on box)... never use more than two channels of this at a time so it's time to unload the extra one... 2 independent channels w/phantom power, up to 66db of gain, cool VU meters... real fun for heavy distorted guitar o...

System of a Down did a similar thing on their last album, by setting up a guitar amp facing a wall of cheap acoustic guitar bodies and then micing the wall of guitars, getting the sound that resonated inside the guitar bodies... this is the ONLY interesting thing from the "Behind the scenes" thing o...

I use a Firepod with Sonar and it works flawlessly everytime... my brother had one of those MOTU units with Sonar and it was if'y sometimes, but that was a few years back and I'm sure firmware upgrades have fixed glitches by now... still, the Firepod is only $399 right now, and that is ALWAYS attrac...
