For me, especially clean tone, it's a 100 watt Rickenbacker twin that I believe is solid state and from the mid 80's. Looks like this but has two channels and is a 2x12" combo: http://i6.ebayimg.com/04/i/07/8f/5b/2c_2.JPG I think it's been used on every single recording I've done and several guitari...

i have one of the ART tube pre (tabletop low-end one) and an older blackface Pro/MPA(?) and there is a definite difference in sound quality, the Pro one I use all the time and love while the other tabletop/budget one just collegcts dust as a backup. Out of curiousity, how would people compare the St...

ungh. i think top heads tuned within an inch of their life has been my main pet peeve for about 6 months, soon to be replaced though by bassists who play with sub-freq. EQ/FX cranked. frankly, don't be afraid to re-tune the drums. i have it sort of easier in that i play drums so when i tell a drumme...

My MXR Distortion + also sounds really good through it. Isn't that supposed to be Bob Moulds pedal of choice? actually, i think he's using a POD now. or he was recently. why he gave up the MXR/harmonizer combo is beyond me. i'd kill to have that distinct of a guitar sound. one thing i've found, whe...

I've had the Aardvark and thought it was mucho inferior sounding to the Layla cards. Had a Layla 20bit for about 6-7 years and never had a problem - upgraded to two Layla24 bit (the older PCI ones) ones and sold the old 20bit to a friend just starting out and it still works fine for him. Really grea...

Re: Woman rockers.
There used to be a band back in the mid 90's (maybe they're still around??) from NY called Eve's Plumb. Their frontwoman (I can't think of her name) had a really great voice (really flexible), and she was one of THEE best frontpeople I'd ever seen live. She was pretty cute too. A quick Google searc...

Re: How close to the real thing do UAD-1 Plug-In's sound?
I've been looking at these for awhile but they don't say if they will work with Cool Edit Pro or Adobe Audition. Anyone have any information/know if anyone's tried this?

Re: What's the trick to stereo guitars?
Yes, I'm trying to fake a figure 8 with to 57's, that's a good way of putting it. I place the mics so they're almost, but not quite perpenticular to the speakers. Take an XY, spread 'em a little wider than 90 (more like 120), and move 'em right in front of the cones.. Bad idea? BTW, the solid-state...

Re: What's the trick to stereo guitars?
personally, my favorite way of doing it is using two amps, preferably one tube and one solid state. have the 57 pointing left at the speaker cone of the left side guitar amp and the other 57 pointing right at the right side amp's cone, more or less like you'd natually hear it. heck, just angling the...
