No, I don't know anything about it. I am just a lurker at the surplus store. Sorry. The pictures they have on the site are current, and of the actual machine where it is now in the store. So, if that helps at all. It says it came out of active service, so that should indicate that it had to be worki...

Yeah, I was there again today, and it is probably a bit smaller than half a fridge. If I have a chance to go there on Friday, I'll take a tape measure and get the dimensions. You could also contact them and ask them to measure if you like. They are there from 1-3pm Wed & Thurs. The people there are ...

It's pretty good size. I would estimate that it is about the size of a refrigerator cut in half vertically.

Ampex MM1100 8-track at Michigan State Surplus

In case someone is looking for this type of thing. Saw it today when I was there. http://www.msusurplusstore.com/servlet/Detail?no=2454 I got a Yamaha PM 1000 24 track board there a couple weeks ago for $500. Sometimes you get good deals here because many people aren't aware the surplus even exists....

I've been talking about this in another topic but...I have acquired a Yamaha PM 1000-24 for $528 from Michigan State. It weighs a ton, is parked in my living room for now, and my wife is happy for me that I got it.

It powers up and I plugged headphones in but I wasn't quite clear on signal routing when I did this. I could hear in the headphones that it was on and the noise floor (ever so minute electric buzz/hum) would increase slightly as I turned up the headphone volume, but I didn't hear my signal passing t...

Something didn't work out with the other buyer apparently, and I got it!

Plus they gave me a gift certificate for the bad experience! Very cool people.

Look for me in the DIY forum in the coming months! ha

PS- It weighs as much as my house.

Well, if it was someone from here then I don't know that I can feel bad about that. We all hope to get deals on equipment. The bidder did get their bid in on time, and it was higher than mine. So, they don't deserve to not get the board. It's just the unfortunate circumstance that they told me that ...

They invited me down several times to come verify and view the fax for any and all reasons if I wanted to. They were pretty great about how sorry they were. The woman that called me was new, and she didn't check the fax machine before calling me. She simply went through the bid box. It just would ha...

Well, let me tell you my sob story on how this worked out. I went to the University and put in my bid. Shortly after 1pm I got the call that I won! So, needless to say I was totally pumped because this is the only way I'm going to get something like this on my budget. They were super great and told ...

Yeah, the problem is that I can't imagine it will go for as low as $400. I was there today looking at it, and the place was busy. I was trying to figure out quickly what would be reasonable if it didn't work. I would imagine that it will go for a good sum if anyone who knows what it is bids on it (a...

Yamah PM-1000 mixer up for auction. Value??? 3.5 hrs left.

My local university has a Yamaha PM - 1000 for sale in a silent auction. It is set up for 24 channels with a possible max of 32. Working condition is unknown, and it is rather dusty. They have a minimum bid of $400 required. Thoughts? Auction ends at 1:00 pm Eastern time today and I'm thinking about...

I feel like the worst thing a person can do is talk to people in a commanding tone as if their opinion is an empirical reality. The P.S. where he says "Try to restrain your graphics person." is the key part of the letter that gives me this opinion. I was probably irritated more than I should have be...

Last night I tried this... idea: you could always skip the bottom snare when recording the drums, then reamp the top snare mic into a monitor placed ontop of the snare, and mic the bottom snare then. crank the monitor and every snare hit should simulate the snare being hit again. frees up a track wh...
