I hope that keyboard was on birth control.

Re: yr PUNCHIN finger

Left handed...middle finger on play, index to punch.

I still "roll the transport" on workstations... a habit I can't seem to break.

Re: My New Toy (G5)

Lovin' my dual 2 G5 here as well. I was always a Mac guy... then went Windows a couple years ago. It was fine... but when I caught the Apple Lust again and got this beast along with the iPod...I was bathed and reborn in the cult of Jobs.

Re: Good Keyboard?

I picked up a Roland A-90EX for my piano playing singer songwriter girlfriend (I should get her a business card that says that), and it's worked really well for her. Pretty nice piano sounds plus some other organs and whatnot. She's a real "piano" person and it was the only controller that had an ac...

Re: soldering Irons

I've inhaled more solder fumes than I care to remember all torched by Weller solder stations. I picked up a brand new in el boxo variable model up from the 'bay not too long ago for about $80.00. Got one of the sweet circuit board holder type PanaVises too for about $25.00. And a Master Mite heat gu...

Re: overheads....sm57's!!!

I really like dynamics on some acoustics as well. The Sennheiser 409 works great...as well as the 57. A few weeks ago I recorded a well known guitar player using a typical Neumann stereo setup...sounded fine. We decided to use a 57 for a "bluesy" slide overdub and damned if the thing didn't sound as...

Re: pedal steel suggestions

I guess I'm a weirdo but I love the sound of pedal steel through little amps with a little grit and distortion on there. I particularly like it through little Fenders (Champ/Deluxe) and Voxes. Get weird with it. You can always split a DI out and have a "safe" version. Steel can interact really well ...

Re: Anybody wanna start a new political party?

I wouldn't equate Libertarianism with Objectivism/Randism. The latter is more of a philosophical system eerily close to a cult of personality. Libertarianism is concerned with the original intent of government as framed in the Constitution. -moze I have read a lot of Rand essays, as well as Liberta...

Re: What's a quality mic cable?

Definitely make your own if you can. Get some Mogami 2534 and some Neutrik XLR connectors and solder away. It's cheaper, you can customize the lengths, and the quality will be superior to most cables you can buy. Plus basic soldering and cable making skills come in handy ALL the time.

"Every A&R person should work with someone who's that talented. Trust me. That's an A&R person's dream. I mean I'd love to work with Jennifer Love Hewitt or one of those actresses who could sing, because they're stars and so they're able to promote the music. But you pay a price because they're the ...

Re: Avalon Vt 737

whatever, if it makes you feel any better, Walter Sear loves it. The studio where I worked rarely used it as a primary mic pre, but used the eq quite a bit. Mike[/url] I just worked on some stuff from Sear Sound the other week. Recording style was cool...like early seventies Stones vibe. Oh, and th...

About 3:24 of "Wrapped Around Your Finger" for me.

Re: stereo ribbon fun

I love my SF-12 on piano and OH. Also sometimes perfect for acoustic guitar. It has what I think of as an "un-forced" sound. It sounds really good without drawing attention to itself and takes EQ like Elvis took Demerol. I usually have to run it with about 50-55db of gain for something like piano. -...

I really dig the McDSP Filterbank. Reacts very nicely to driving the input a little.
