Re: Oddball Compressor ... Executone M270

Different package than the ones I worked on, but the guts look really similar. I agree that black tubular cap type is almost always bad. Everything I said in my groupDIY thread should still apply.

Re: Mixing with the band there

Used to be the band was always present, and that dropped off 12-15 years ago immediately to NO ONE attending. For me at least. The part I miss about attended mix sessions is that, no matter what crazy things occurred, you were probably done when they left. As opposed to now, with a dozen recall/remi...

Re: Mixing a band with a single, mono electric guitar

Two amps or multiple mics for one sometimes. With power trio I’ve also had good success putting bass in a crossover, lows to middle and treating guitar equivalent frequencies as opposite pan for guitar.

Re: tube amp debugging (jet city 20 watt combo)

Don't chase anything else until you get filament voltage to make tubes light up. That is possibly the only problem.

Re: Question about RCA 44-BX and various models

I haven't looked into the 44 so closely, but at times with RCA the -'X' can be a color difference, sometimes it's more than that. Like if something came in 3 colors, A/B/C would be the first variation, D/E/F the second, etc. Example: 36-A equipment shelf (2nd version) MI-4681C black MI-4681E transmi...

Re: The drum "Wurst Mic" technique - Holy shit!

I used a Neumann KM131 omni in that position as the only mic on a drum kit, sounded great, cymbals properly 'Back In Black' low but clear.

For those who own or use this pre, what models do you have and which IC preamps do you prefer?
Mine both are the stock version. I have plenty of color pre's, so never felt the need to make these lean that way.

Re: Mastering Anxiety

I usually feel like I'm too close to it to see the big problems anyway, at the end I'm just pushing pixels around that pretty much no one, including myself, will see a week later. Usually there's some time constraint that forces my hand, cuts off potential final tweaks. It can be good to develop a r...

Re: FS: RCA BN-1A remote preamp

Been awhile since I used it, but I’d say medium to loud sources, maybe ok with a quiet source and a high output mic. Depends on so many things....including how much you want to lean into RX7.

Re: What musical thang didja work on today/night?

More interesting than usual here, finished one remote tracking job with an electric band, got back to studio and changed out the gear, went and set up an other remote session for the next few days, acoustic duo work. Both several hours away from home, in different directions.
