I wondered if you were drinking and typing like I do at times! :D And my correction / addition: The pre-1960 Langevin 116A and the Altec 428B both use tertiary feedback windings on the output transformers which can be strapped in series or in parallel for a 6db change in gain. Note these are still f...

I'll come back with more soon; have to say now that 'symetrical' is significantly more like 'push-pull' than 'single ended' in end result, at very least when compared to anything like the RCA BA-21A wich uses a phase splitter tube between an SE input and a PP output. I've not heard many tube phase s...

Single-ended is by far the most common. There's a fair number of push-pull tube preamps (Langevin AM-5116B, Altec 458A, UA 1008, Collins 6R, etc) and a fair number of single-ended/phase splitter/push-pull types also (RCA BA-21A, Altec 428B, AWA 1G59391, etc). There are also many line / program amps ...

Doug....I recall that the 5V units include overvoltage protection, but I don't know at what VDC it kicks in. But, if you've cranked it up to 6VDC without problems, there's a good answer! Bri You are right about the overvoltage protection, which is probably a good thing with filaments. It may be 5.9...

It's really easy to see if your check cleared by looking at your statement, but the recipient has no clear way of knowing when something has been declared good, without going through a pain-in-the-ass process with all-involved banks, thus a standard hold time. Maybe you're being screwed, but I still...

Yeah, if I get a check, it's not shipping until cleared, which at minimum is ten business days. So chill out. I've heard of postal money orders bouncing 14 days after deposit, so it's getting worse out there all the time. If you need it fast send a PMO or a cashier's check. Try to look at his perspe...

Find a tube tester and check them all. Generically speaking, with any tube amp, move like tubes around to different positions and check for changes first. No test gear needed at all. If you had a dying or dead tube, it would more likely be characterised by weak or non-existant sound. I looked it up,...

The effect will differ depending on the type of mic. For instance, some RCA ribbons have a high damping factor, and others don't. They will respond differently to a bridging vs. matching load, and everything in between. Condensers usually want to see a full bridging load, and will have less headroom...
