Re: Do I need and external word clock?

Good to know TooLoFi, most of that other thread was dealing with only Digidesign. I wonder if anyone here has had positive results with external clocks and other brands of interfaces..
.
Oh, this is off topic, but AnalogElectric, is that the "hypno toad" in your little pictrure thing there?

Re: Do I need and external word clock?

Oh yea, I was basing my response on a very general premise, if you hook up an external clock to your already working system, will it be an "improvement..." . Is there anything giving you the impression that there is something wrong? Are you having any sonic problems that would cause you to believe y...

Re: Do I need and external word clock?

Howdy, There was a pretty massive thread on this a while ago. (you should definately check it out in the archives, not sure where it is.).. . One very respected member on the board, insisted that using an external clock was a key element in his recording. . Some other designers insist that you shoul...

Re: Novice question-home recording setup!

Hi, Welcome to the board! . The learning curve isn't quite as steep as you may think. Once you get the hang of things, most programs work on the same principals. Personally, I would shy away from the stand alone units. They work great for portable recordings and they aren't "bad", however, a lot of ...

Re: Roland Vs-1824CD

I don't have an 1824, I have an older model. So, I can't really speak for that particular unit. The on-board preamps on my recorder aren't that great but they get the job done. It's handy if you want to do portable recordings. I didn't have any problems with the Roland converters, but I did feel tha...

Re: Roland Vs-1824CD

WOW.... uhhh. something weird happend and that copied all over the place. . so, I think here it is? I have an older VS workstation, and they work on the same principals. I looked up the specs on your model, and there is no USB or firewire ports available for these models. Usually, the Roland ...

Hi, I have an older VS workstation, and they work on the same principals. I looked up the specs on your model, and there is no USB or firewire ports available for these models. Usually, the Roland stand alone recorders have a certain code in which they store the data internally to read it's "song" w...

Re: A plug-in rant!

I guess the theory is that these plugins are the equivalent of the real deal. If you have to fork out $3000 for a tube mic pre, you should fork out the same for a "virtual" one, right? Downside to this, of course, is all of the licensing. I understand why companines want to avoid piracy, but it tota...

Re: why OS X and a MAC instead of a PC and XP ??

Sure, you can transfer files from Cubase on a PC to Mac. I have transfered files from PC to Mac to both Cubase and Pro-Tools. There are definately compatibilty problems if you want to transfer an actual arrangement with all of your settings. The safest way to do it, is to render all of your tracks i...

Re: farfisa?

Reason has a pretty decent selection of Farfisa soundbanks. There is also a plugin pack with 70's vintage keys that are nice as well. If you run them out of an amp and mic it, they can sound pretty convincing.

Whether or not anyone on this board buys MS, pirates it, or uses it's products for coa...

Re: Roland VS 1824cd question. Please help if you can!

Yea, I'd like some hair myself... . You have to "format" the zip drive on my 880 in order for the unit to read the song. So, that suggests to me that there some sort of code specific to the Roland units. I have heard of people hooking these things up to their terminals via the SCSI port and recogniz...

Re: Roland VS 1824cd question. Please help if you can!

I don't have a vs1824, but I have a vs880ex. They work on the same principals, though you have a nicer model than I do. I checked out the specs on the 1824 and it looks as though there are coaxial and optical S/PDIF's on it. You can pick up either of these cables at RadioShack, probably even at Wall...

Re: windows xp update

Most of the time on this board you won't get a lot of feedback advocating piracy. Guess we're all good citizens that eat our vegetables and help old ladies across the street. I myself just sucked it up. It's not THAT expensive, and your system will run smoother. It's really frustrating in the pirate...
