Thanks for all the recs guys. I made a typo with 129k/24 bit, I meant 192k/24 bit, which clearly seems to be overkill. When I used to record clients, I recorded at 96k/24bit with no issues. I may give 88.2k/24bit a go based on some light reading on the Nyquist-Shannon sampling theory: http://en.wiki...

How's my setup?

Hello all, I'm an old time tape oper who is getting back into recording for the fun of it. I wanted to get some feedback regarding my setup and what I can do to improve it, or obtain the most professional quality. I went to school for recording back in 04 and recorded bands for a bit, got a little d...

new macbook pro

So the new macbook pro released today: * 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo * 2GB memory * 250GB hard drive * Double-layer SuperDrive * NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB This is a pretty powerful beast by today's standards for use in a DAW. micing an archtop acoustic

Does anyone know of a good mic/pickup to mic an old 40's acoustic archtop with? Looking for something that can be permanently mounted inside/on the guitar. PZM, fishman? Any ideas? Obviously trying to achieve the best sound possible without feeding back. Thanks!

jeff, That is actually great advice... I am mixing on Alesis Mk1s and I can totally see what you are saying... I think a better monitor set up is going to be my next plan. I had an inkling that it was time to upgrade my monitors, but have just put it off for quite some time. With that said, any reco...

lifting the frequency veil...

So I'm trying to critique some of my recorded music and something I have noticed recently is that there seems to be a sort of masking on top of all my mixes compared to several commercial mixes. It almost seems as though it is a little muddy or washy, compared to the openness of some mixes. I try to...

Im a proud owner of an RME fireface 800 and the thing is incredible. The company is German, so it is obviously going to be good and robust engineering... and their support/updating is really good. Id say go for the RME.

I think bass should definately have reverb on it. Even if its a little verb, it's not going to hurt... besides, you can just crank up the pre-delay so you have that initial dry attack. Beach boys did a great job using verb on the bass and you have to admit it sounds incredible. The new Band of Horse...

In Rainbows-Radiohead... thoughts?

What does everyone think about how they are releasing their new album? What is everyone going to pay for it, if anything?

*this may not be the correct place to make this post, but I couldnt think of where else to put it, other than people skills.

Nope, thats typical digidesign for you... charging you for every small nook and cranny of their program, it costs an extra 500... Personally I use Sonar 6 and it does everything I would ever need a DAW to do.

you can export the session as an OMF and import it into Pro Tools if you have digi translator... If not, solo each track and bounce them out of CEP as individual mono wav files and drag and drop them into Pro Tools. It's prob. going to be a little time consuming, so hang in there!
