My cassettes from late 70s are fine. And ones from 1980s and 1990s as well. Quarter inch from late 50s to late 80s are good too. I've had some bad luck with newer stuff, mostly 1" from 90s and 2000s.

I like some dynamics that are old but half of my recordings is a few SM57 to cassette tape.

After waiting months I finally bought three strings ..two for a twelve string and one for another twelve string. That'll be it for 2022 ! !

I did this once but didn't set it up ..the engineer mounted speakers on stands and positioned the height and angle very carefully, making several adjustments to make the whole thing work.

The three ways I've done it over the years ..either a few people singing their part ..Or, two or more people singing each part together in unison ..Or, one person singing into a vocal harmonizer thingy. Each works for different reasons.

I've never had a snare too loud ...guess you'd need to re-record with the mic in a different position?

I mix and match using adaptors ..mostly works ..can't think of a time it didn't.

As for manipulating theres lots of options: tuning, piece of foam, no foam, or even a paper towel scotch-taped on (my fave).

I can hardly tell one verb from another . . kinda like using salt when cooking.

As for what the OP is asking ...yes, 95% of everything you read could be bs. And that goes for all books and media in life. Only trust info from your personal experience. And from the one or two people in your life that you know to be a good and honest source.
