My favs...
SG thru my 67 Vox Conqueror.
Strat thru my 72 Twin Reverb, 71 Bassman head,
or the low input of my Sovtek Mig 50H with a little underlying bite to it.
My pedal steel guitar loves my Twin as well.

You might check out the MXL V69. I like mine, especially after changing the tube. It doesn't sound like my Peluso 2247 LE, but if it did, then I wouldn't have spent $1800 on the big boy. With the NOS tube (RCA), it really sounds old school. Others have put in a Mullard and says it sounds really smoo...

If your use of a microphone consists of what it cost and what it's worth, then I feel sorry for you. it does not, as I evaluated it based on its {un}becoming sonic qualities. the fact that it has no resale value is separate from such qualities, and the fact that mics that spank it left and right do...

this is like a copy of the mxl enployee thread. "if you can't get a usable result everytime with a cheap ass mic, you suck as an engineer!" i have not only recorded records with these, but i've posted stuff up in the listen section here repeatedly. one even got distributed on a controversial tour t...

I have a modded one it is good for a diy project, to get your feet wet but if you intend to use this stock.. i'd suggest saving up for a mic you won't throw away in a year. I've had a stock pair for over two years and I haven't thrown mine away yet! If you can't make a record with these mics, then ...

If it were me, I would sell the lunchbox rack and get some unique pieces that will help define the sound of your studio. Not to dog the API stuff, or anything else that fits into that rack, but in a listening test, I wouldn't know one from the other....and it may have clarity, but it's bland. How ma...

I love Queen, but I am not in the business of making records that sound like Queen records. I mean, Good Golly Miss Molly, that would be like Jeff Lynne making every record he produces sound like an ELO reco...oh wait. That's funny, because I try and make ELO records that sound like Queen. I'm scre...
