i'm working on a project right now and I turned off the master processing to hear how the mix sounds without it, and WOW.....those are some loud drums and vocals. if it changes that much that's a lotta compression you got on the mix buss. if that's the sound your going for, then you have to have a ...

Just so I am clear for you all.... I mix in mastering mode, but I don't actually burn the master with the processing on. After I'm thru with all the mixes, I then put them into another session, and then the final mastering process begins. The cool thing is I already know my mixes are good going into...

I was by no means telling anyone to master as they go, unless they know what there doing. I had the great opportunity back in my band days to have a record mixed by Andy Wallace. i spent 3 weeks with him in New Jersey and watched his every move. I'm with you on that one, except I have the 688 cassette version. This thing was the caddilac of home recording until the digital age. Another alternative for you is to take your sessions to the mastering facility instead of the two track master. That way if something needs to co...

Thanks to all of you for replying! I just got some interesting information from an old brocasting engineer that swears by the old RCA mics. To make a short story long....... I was doing a search on the old Gates Radio Company because I have a old tube preamp from the the late 30's-early 40's that I ...

I have a question for all you ribbonheads. I just recently bought a RCA 74b and the sound is amazing, but there is a good amount of noise (hissing) coming from the mic. I'm running it through a Focusrite Red 1, and of course I'm having to run the input at full throttle. The Red 1 is super clean, so ...
