Re: Deceptively loud instruments

This might seem stupid but, the first time I heard a full sized steel drum I was convinced that there had to be some kind of amp hiding somewhere. What a cool instrument with a LOUD sound !

Re: Recording Pro Tools at 96k Sample Rate on Digi 002?

I've been doing all of my projects at 24/96 lately and it would be hard to go back. We are running a PTHD excel II system so that helps with the chunk factor.

Hard drives are cheap so 96 is the way for me..

Re: THE PRICE OF VINTAGE GEAR ON E-BAY!

API 550(original),553,312 pre w/ 5 space rack $1700.00 AMPEX MM1200 (from the Record Plant) $2500.00 ect... Also, Working at a independent music store has helped g...

I would also agree on the latency of the converters. There would be a delay going out from track one into track two. Even if its not much of a delay the two signals will be slightly out of phase with each other.

Re: 421 bass rolloff switch

Every once in a while I use one for snare drum. Often I'll click it like 1 or two clicks to the "S" just to get a bit clearer sound, but YMMV.

Well, I had Thanksgiving eary with my folks and then worked on overdubs with the singer/guitarist in my band. Were tracking everything on my new Ampex MM1200 and are just LOVING whats coming back through the speakers!. We got a lot done, and had a blast.

Re: Steve Albini Drum Sound?

Just wanted to add that when I was at Electrical a few months ago I seem to remember Steve saying that he almost always tracks drums in the smaller live room in studio "A". I thought we'de be tracking them in the bigger room, but the drums sounded huge in a "medium" sized room. I think it has more t...

Re: New AEA ribbon mic - R92

Looks cool. I've used my R84's on guitar and always liked what I got back. Sometimes I like it even more than a R121. It just depends on the guitarist. I wonder what this new mic sounds like against the R84?
