so, guestimated percentages aside, what revolutionary features does Reaper offer that will so dramatically increase my productivity over the programs that I use now (Cubase, DP and PT)? well, coming from a PT background, here are some of the things i like in reaper: - it runs FAST on my machine (PC...

i've had some luck using a at2020 as a single OH mic, i'd probably go with those.

krautrock sound is very dry, lots of close mic, not much room, btw - there's some other threads on here talking about how to pull that sound.

since i've installed/registered reaper, i've only gone back to protools (le) to open old sessions.

worth the price of admission for the new mix of 'i am the walrus' alone. the second half of the original stereo mix used a 'stereo-ified' version of the original mono mix because there were no tapes for some of the stuff on that mix - if you listen to it, there's some weird phase/comb filter effect ...

acid music studio is excellent fun - i'd highly recommend it (my teenage cousins have gotten lots of use out of it, anyway).

however, the suggestion above to get a cheap tape four track is also a good one. either/or?

sorta on-topic: singer came back from smoking on the balcony and threw his lighter back on his backpack (which was on my bed) while we were tracking some vocals. this is what happened next: http://remaincalm.org/accidents_studio_on_fire_20060430.mp3 (i think that was an at4040 into focusrite green p...

Monitoring: is B&W601 to Event ALP5 an upgrade?

Hi all, I mix and record a few projects at home in my (large, non-treated) bedroom. The room (and possibly my chunky wooden desk) does some ugly things to the bass side of things (lots of resonances) - I'm in the process of working out how to get some treatments in here without permanently marking t...

70's roland jet phaser (one of the brown monsters) for $40AUD in 1994. i had no idea it was worth anything until recently. but: i was broke at the time so i had to sell another pedal i'd picked up to cover the cost. some weird 70's italian fuzz pedal that made my guitar sound like a chainsaw. wish i...

beta58's get used for a lot of high end stadium-type live vocals (look for the little blue ring around the top - everyone uses them). i've used them on floor tom, guitar amp (by itself - works better than a 57 like this), and they rule on vocals. if you really need one good dynamic, i find it's bett...

m-audio stuff is good, because it lets you run pro tools mp if you decide you want to later. the delta 44's are great and can be had pretty cheap on ebay. get a pair of at2020s - very nice large diaphragm condenser mic, bit grainy in the treble but for the money they're amazing. sounds good on voice...
