You're saying those KRKs don't have minus infinity? OMG. No need to mock. I come here with a humble spirit to get help and answers. Since the monitors are powered, I assumed that turning their amplifiers all of the way down would result in zero signal i the same way that my home stereo emits no sou...

Thanks for the info, everyone. I reconfigured last night by turning the monitors' levels all the way down and then turning the MOTU all the way up to "0db." I expected this to give me silent speakers that I would then turn up to a comfortable level, but with them "off," the sound was at about the pe...

gain-staging tr-606 snares (RMS vs. huge peaks)
I'm recording a TR-606 drum machine, and the snares are really interesting. However, they have massive peaks - if I get the RMS level of them at around -18dbfs, the transient/attack peaks will still even clip 0dbfs sometimes! Where should I be recording these things at, level-wise, to get the best t...

Set active monitors at full, then attenuate at interface?
I have a new setup, and I'm trying to figure out how to best set all levels for most accurate reproduction of what I have "on tape" when tracking, mixing, editing, etc. My audio interface is a MOTU 828mk3, which is a +4 device, and it's going out to two powered KRK monitors. The KRK's manual says to...

Is there a good EQ AU that animates the pre-EQ freqs?
I've been loving the EQ in my MOTU 828 mkIII - when accessed using the Cuemix software, the EQ window animates the frequencies of the signal in realtime, so you can see "where" they are. When I can see exactly where the kick drum is hitting, it's nice to just scoop in and boost, cut, etc. There's an...

So far, it works insanely well in practice. Now if we can only get Numerology working with Volta, every analog sequencer will be instantly obsolete.joel hamilton wrote:I was looking at the Volta.subatomic pieces wrote:Wasn't Joel looking for something like this?
It really looks awesome. Its a great idea.

MOTU Volta - My computer is spitting analog control voltage!
Is anyone else using MOTU's volta software? http://www.motu.com/products/software/volta I bought a MOTU 828 mkIII just for Volta, and I'm kind of in love. Though there's a bit of a learning curve in getting everything set up, it truly is a "one-click" solution for integrating analog modular synths w...

For the past 10 years, I would agree with you, but a few months ago I went Mac and haven't looked back. It really is "set it and forget it," and it just plain works right out of the box without any of those insane tweaks and adjustments. I got my Mac in the mail and that evening I was mixing down th...

Samson Rubicon R8A's or KRK RP8G2's?
For an all-purpose home system for recording, mixing, as well as music listening from a turntable, CD's, and mp3's. My budget's about $500 for a pair of active monitors and both look great, but I haven't seen or heard the Rubicon's in person. The whole ribbon tweeter sounds preferable; you don't rea...

I've been watching the Zeds and waiting for them to go firewire. I don't need a huge board like that, but when it trickles down to the smaller mixers, I'll be ready. This is the sort of tech. integration that we should have seen 10 years ago...I've been waiting for a basic analog desktop mixer that ...
