Re: financing new purchases? ie: i really need to update my
Regardless of whether you decide to get the loan or not, research your needs tirelessly. I look back on gear that I was considering buying 3 months ago and just have to laugh and be thankful that I didn't have the money to buy it then. This is why buying a piece at a time works best for me - I know ...

Re: protools vs cool edit pro....
I would second the CEP although the transition to Protools would be easy enough. I think that they are both pretty intuitive, however, I prefer CEP. What are your hardware options with CEP? Is Protools exclusive to Digidesign hardware? I would think that your biggest obstacle would be learning how t...

Re: Ray Manzarek, Producer
Well, I never assumed any of those things. My statement was directed at your opinion that his poetry was on the level of a 12 year old. Considering your level of education, I would think that you would understand my point that it is not. I'm, again, not saying that you have to like his work but to t...

Have you tried exporting the files you want to burn to CD Creator or other burning software? Might be worth a shot.

Re: Ray Manzarek, Producer
Sure, it's all subjective but to say that his poetry is equivalent to a twelve year old's is ridicuous. If you have ever taken any kind of poetry or writing course you can immediately identify that Morrison isn't an uninformed hack taking a mental shit on paper. You don't have to like, understand or...

Re: Ray Manzarek, Producer
The Doors have become tired but I think that this is because you still hear the same songs on Classic Rock stations. Look at the fusion they had going: a drummer trained in jazz, a guitar player trained in classical music with a taste for gyspy guitar, an organ player and a film-school dropout posse...

Re: hangover cures?
1. Eat something before you go to bed. 2. When you wake up at 5am to take a leak, pop an Aleve and drink as much water as you can. 3. When you wake, eat a very greasy breakfast with lots of protein (protein is good for soft tissue=brain). I prefer a meatless breakfast, but mix it up if you like. 4. ...

No, it has a firewire port. It is the Ruby imac so I hope that it is legit.

Re: Software options for OS 10.3
Thanks Ottokbre. I know that it is a tall order but I thought it would be fun to get back to some sound files I have previously recorded. I'll check out the Tracktion thread.

Software options for OS 10.3
After my PC died, I picked up a 400mhz, 320 SDRAM imac. I know that those specs aren't great, but for $150 I couldn't pass it up. I need to find some audio software for editing and I'm not sure where to go. I used Cool Edit Pro (and loved it) for PC and I have used Protools on a Mac and thought it w...

Re: HOW OLD ARE YOU???
I'm 28, married with a cat. I work at a publishing company, Chronicle Books. We published Temples of Sound (however, it was before I started here). I have a BA in English and also studied production at SF STate. I was an intern for a very cool local engineer for a while but am now working at home on...

Re: Pro-Tools Certification - Is it worth it?
From my experience, no certification or degree of any kind will land you a job in this industry. What will land you a job is experience, connections and a portfolio of past projects. The thing about protools is that it is a very intuitive program. It is not complex like Logic. If you read the manual...

Re: music mags for freelance writing...
Well, I hope you aren't looking to make money at this. Most magazines (not major ones) will take on writers. You usually start out reviewing albums and if they like your style, they will ask you to write features, concert reviews, etc. I do some stuff for Devil in the Woods and they are very cool to...
