Re: Neutral Milk Hotel
I think Aeroplane is one of the best albums ever. Simply majestic. Everything about that album explains to me what I want to be as an artist. If I ever feel lost or off-track with what I am creating musically, I put on that album. That said, my wife can't stand it. She won't even let me play it when...

Perfect Sound Forever
Anyone have the new Pavement book? What are your thoughts? I'm a pretty big Pavement fan and am wondering if this book presents any unusual material or interesting bent. No store in SF seems to have it; I'm sure it rocks.

Re: MXL2001 and M-Audio AudioBuddy Mic Pre $29 @ GC
I bought one last night at the SF store. There is a lot of confusion and even the salesperson couldn't believe that the mic and pre were $29. Tell them to ask the manager and he/she will okay the sale.

Re: How do you deal with rednecks?
Well, I'm originally from KY so I know what you're talking about. When I used to see a lot of live bluegrass music I was always amazed at how the band mixed themselves. For example, seeing the Del McCoury Band was amazing because they had a single mic (U87?) in the middle of the stage and they would...

I'm interested in this also. And if it can be done, how can you add phantom power to each?

Re: Recording Tambourine
One variation I have like in the past is to set the tambourine on the floor and play it with my foot (like a kick pedal). It's a lot easier to do this with the semi-circular ones, but I prefer the ones with a hide. If you use a round one, just use a wedge as a fulcrum. Set the tambo on a rug or fine...

Re: Tape Loops
There is a tape-loop tutorial article in the Tape-Op archives on Prosound Webs' site. Go to www.prosoundweb.com and look under "Tape Op archive" It should be one of the article choices.

Re: i'd love to read a TapeOp interview with...
Blue...I mean, Wing I would love to see a Scott Solter/John Vanderslice interview. I was fortunate enough to assist Scott throughout this past year and it was a great experience (He was working on the new Court and Spark, new Vanderslice and his own album, under the name Boxharp). Scott is truely an...

Re: Stephen Malkmus
I disagree that Godrich killed Pavement. Malkmus had been hinting at the breakup since Crooked Rain. The key thing with Pavement albums is that they all take a huge leap from the previous album. That's what I love about their albums. One thing to note is that Terror Twilight is essentially Malkmus' ...

Re: Is my guitar made of plastic?
Thanks for all the help. Yeah, the 12th fret approach is the most workable yet. Also having good luck with the NT4 over the shoulder pointing down directly above the strings (about 2-3 above the guitar). I love the sound of the 57 the best but I have to crank the pre to make up for the distance. Tha...

Is my guitar made of plastic?
I've been trying to get a usable recording out of my acoustic for many months now and I'm at the end of my rope. It seems that no matter how I mic the guitar (or what mic, pre I use) it always ends up sounding like its made of plastic. It's got this really annoying, kinda honky frequency that domina...
