Re: Show Us Your Junk - cool gear porn YouTube Channel

I accidentally stumbled on these a month or so ago and enjoyed quite of few of them, especially Albini and Vanderslice. I don't mind that it's "branded content"... a lot of companies do that now, it's real low-key advertising that's used to serve a greater story or content, so whatever, I'm still le...

The drum "Wurst Mic" technique - Holy shit!

I recently heard about the "Wurst Mic Technique" invented by Moses Schneider. Basically you use a dynamic cardioid like a SM57 pointed right at the drummer's knee, positioned kind of equidistant between snare/toms/kick. The idea being that it kind of rejects so much cymbal information (which you'll ...

Re: UAD 3 Plugins Pack - Which would you choose?

1176 bundle, absolutely. Everyone should have a great Pultec plug too, and UAD was always my favorite. From there I think the field evens out with other plugin providers, and there's more room for personal preference. I never use Ocean Way in mic modelling mode, but love it in reverb mode, and for ...

Re: UAD 3 Plugins Pack - Which would you choose?

1176, of course. Then the Ocean Way (in reverb mode) does things convincing enough for me, but it's such a CPU hog (i got a dual processor card) i just render the track to stay free of trouble with some of the more hungry other plugins which gave me trouble, even if all of them were way under 90% l...

Re: Reducing noise from a vintage synth?

I swapped out the cable for a Mogami Gold instrument cable, turned output to Low and then turned up the gain in the preamp. Seems to be much better.

Re: Reducing noise from a vintage synth?

The poly six has a chorus, right? Is the noise worse with chorus on than off? Sometimes the bbd chips get noisy with age. Replacing with an NOS chip from a reputable dealer (bootlegs abound) can solve that problem. Other than that, I’m clueless. It does, and indeed it's a touch quieter when I turn ...

Re: Reducing noise from a vintage synth?

Thankfully I've actually had it serviced and the battery was replaced prior to any spill. Whew. I've heard horror stories about that... I'll definitely try turning down on synth and gaining up on the preamp and see how that works out. Thanks

Reducing noise from a vintage synth?

Hi there, I have vintage Korg Polysix which I absolutely love, though it's a bit noisy. I know this is expected for a 30+ year old synth, and the Polysix is known to be a noisy little bugger, but I'm wondering if I can do improvements to my signal path at the very least? Currently running a guitar 1...

Re: Bantam TT to 1/4 for guitar pedal after recorded?

Ah ok, that makes sense. Thanks for answering, I'm not always so technical so I definitely wanted to make sure I do it the right way. I've heard of re-amping but I've simply never done it before. Excited to play around! One last question though: if my interface has a DI input on the front for guitar...

Bantam TT to 1/4 for guitar pedal after recorded?

Hi there, I sometimes want to take a dry guitar that was pre-recorded and play with pedals after the fact (and also I love the idea of running my drum buss through some of my pedals to create some real chaos). With my setup I have my audio interface hooked up to my 96TT patchbay. I was thinking the ...

Maren Morris - Girl

Normally I absolutely *HATE* pop country. Typically I think it's cheesy, overproduced, and tries too hard to be top40 pop. When it comes to country, the only stuff I like is Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr., Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, and Neko Case (who I wouldn't even call country really). So on a...

Freesound.org is great in a pinch.

Having worked in post-production (editing & sound), I have a ton of things I could throw your way as well if you give me a short wishlist. DM me.

Patchbay setup question - grounding

I recently purchased a 96pt TT patchbay for my studio that has fully selectable modes for normalling and grounding. I fully understand how normalling works now and how to set that up per channel for my needs. However I'm lost on the grounding options on this thing: Isolated, Grounds Bussed, or Verti...
