I love reaper, i think almost everything about it is great, with one big exception. Whenever i try to bring in files from another program i always have tremendous issues. I've been on the reaper forum and followed all the advice i've gotten but it still happens. Some on the forums have denied that ...

What's your operating system? You can do a web search for "optimize Windows 7 for audio recording" (or whatever OS you're using) to get some good hints. Also, you may want to download the free DPC Latency Checker to see if you can figure out what's happening; their web page has some good troubleshoo...

I don't use anything, myself, but the guy who made the cool Molot compressor just released this new freebie that looks pretty sweet.

This may fit the bill, also, but you need an Ilok:

I guess it depends on what you'll be doing with your setup. If you're comfortable with Protools and will be working in other studios where it may be more compatible for session-swapping, then sure. If you're just recording yourself or doing casual projects, I'd probably go with something like Reaper...

I usually go between an SM7B and a (gasp!) MXL V67G. It's cheap, tacky looking, and I think it sounds cool.

Just to chime in, I just picked up a refurbed Mac Mini Server with the 2 GHz quad-core i7 (Thunderbolt, dual internal hard drives...) from the Apple store for $850CAN; it comes with the full Apple warranty.

IMHO, it's just okay. I would definitely not go and buy an Ilok just to use it.

FT: 2 Heil PR-30s for an LDC

This is probably a long-shot but if anyone in the Vancouver Island/Vancouver area would like to do a swap, I'm looking for a decent LDC for an alternative vocal mic. I have a large assortment of LDDs so I'm looking to trade two of my PR-30s. They're pretty much brand-new and have only been out of th...

Maybe there's a frequency in the recording that the speaker can't deal with? If it sounds OK on headphones, the recording is probably OK. If it's a small plastic speaker there may be frequencies in the audio or resonance in the speaker that makes it crap out in noticeable ways. Just a thought. I go...

FWIW, and it's a condensor, but the CAD M179 is very cool and notta lotta scratch (US$150 street.) One excellent aspect is that the pattern is infinitely variable, from hyper-cardoid to fig.8 to omni. I have a 635a, BTW; hate it on drums, love it on vox, find it useful for guitar amps. Does the CAD...
