Re: ear training

I have the Golden Ears stuff, but I can tell you, all Dave Moulton does is cut and boost at different frequencies on music and pink noise using Waves Q10. I learned alot more by doing it myself. Just make your own C.D.s, you'll learn more, or better yet just take a bunch of program material -- class...

I'm pretty sure the guitar article was in Guitar Player maybe 10 or so years ago. Mutt Lange produced the record, I think, and I remember reading something about it. You might want to go to www.projectstudiohandbook.com, and look under the mix files or something like that. I believe Back in Black wa...

Thanks. When I get some more bread, I think I'm going to get some of these DIY kits, maybe that amp, and possibly some of these Hamptones, and some other shit. I'd like to get good enough at tech stuff that I can service my own gear. My last Marshall sounded killer, but I got rid of it, after 10 yea...

I'm interested too. I love AC/DC. I read an article by Angus Young a while back and he said the amps he used in the studio were JTM-45s (on 10) through celestion Greenbacks, with no effects, verb or anything. Someone also told me that Bon Scott (oh wait, we're talking about Back in Black) used to si...

Right on! You tell him, brother. Bullshit. The guy stinks. True -- he probably sounds as good as any of the other shit that some of you guys talk about (all this effeminate, whining singer songer writer shit I always hear you guys talk about). But lets not get personal. Different people can have dif...

Re: What's the difference:"talent" vs. "chari

I think I'd use the term "charisma" as either a joke or somewhat contemptuosly. Charisma usually refers to "what people like," which more often than not means the least common denominator, or something egregious and loud to attract the attention of the masses. It rarely refers to anything of quality...

There's a story in Del Rio Texas about the time the local arts committe invited Andres Segovia to play guitar in front of the locals. I think the kids expected Roy Rogers or Gene Autry to play cowboy songs, because after Segovia started playing, some kid rolled a coke bottle down the aisle. Then he ...

Allright -- go back to the internet then. Take your little electronica/crummy derivative radiohead-wannabe bands; your smart-ass, trite political opinions; and your self-promoting, disingenuous butt-kissing threads -- and go back to Wisconsin or Iowa or Brooklyn or wherever you clowns come from. wha...

Re: where is it all going? [rant]

Who cares? Fuck the radio. Lets face it, people can create great music in their homes now by buying their own gear and learning to use it. I told my wife a long time ago that I thought most of the music in the future will not involve large studios, it will mostly be done in peoples spare rooms. I th...

Re: Tape Op trashed on Motu Mac listserv

I'm just kidding. I hate the Grateful Dead. Come on guys -- lighten up. This forum rules. Granted, there's a hip-rock-and-roll smart ass element in here that is just as stultifying in it's own way as the boring petite bourgeios attitude you might find else where. But I read this forum every day, eve...
