Re: Good HTML 5 Embedded Player?
The HTML5 audio and video players are so new that nothing is as fully fleshed out as the Flash players you've been using. These are two that look promising--I haven't used these yet, but plan to in an upcoming project: http://www.happyworm.com/jquery/jplayer/ http://videojs.com/ I include the video ...

Re: George Martin disses Ringo
One could choose to see Ringo's drum overdubbing as part of his talents as a drummer. Maybe, specifically, because he couldn't play some drum parts in real-time, he, like the rest of the bend, found cool new ways to create music in the studio.

It looks similar in the pictures to the Cascade X-15. Is it the same mic as the stock X-15?

VideoLan VLC works pretty great. You might also look at Handbrake, though I'm not sure you can grab the audio without the video.

Just saw this article in yesterday's Newsweek online, Radio's Tangled Web: New copyright fees threaten to push Internet radio stations out of business--but they won't go without a fight.
It's a good, concise explanation of what's happening.

I don't think radio stations pay BMI / ASCAP or Soundexchange for the tracks they play that are accounted for under some separate lcensing, e.g., creative commons, or some specific commercial license. There's some administrative process where it all gets audited and reconciled. They sure do. All ra...

If I understand correctly, Soundexchange collects for everything played, including independents and labels that are not collecting from Soundexchange (who requires a fee). It's a compulsory license. This is true even if the webcaster plays only creative commons/ public domain stuff or has the permi...

Re: but seriously
Your DAW will be processing at 32 bit float no matter what bit depth you choose to store the individual files at. Digital Performer 5.1 (and, I think 4.6 too) internally procesess everything in 32-bit float, and only changes the bit depth down to 24/16 bit when it needs to, e.g., when you're bounci...

Internet radio stations already have to pay BMI / ASCAP, same as everyone else. This issue does not have to do with BMI / ASCAP type royalties at all. This is blatantly incorrect. Perhaps I could have been more clear: This issue does not have anything to do with the royalties composers / songwriter...

Thanks everyone for the good advice. do you think the listener is more likely to listen on phones or on spkrs? Well, the iPod factor definitely is on my mind, with regards to this. I haven't been testing these mixes in my iPod ear buds, but I am going to now. Ultimately, when I have to make a choice...

An artist on my label just got a decent size check from BMI for airplay last year on a handful (30+) stations here in the midwest. If internet radio had to pay as well, this artist could have received much more. Internet radio stations already have to pay BMI / ASCAP, same as everyone else. This is...

Good effect sound in monitor / not so in headphones
I am working on a song that has a stereo vibro effect on the main rhythm guitar part, and I love how it sounds through my monitors. But, when I listen on headphones, the vibro is no longer as subtle as I'd like. How do you deal with this kind of discrepency with the way something sounds in headphone...

Some webcasters will definitely continue and broadcast only independent artists with whom they can make direct royalty deals, and/or artists who preemptively give others permission to use their music (e.g., releasing music under a Creative Commons license). Maybe there is something good in that for ...

End of Internet radio vs Internet Radio Equality Act
The US copyright process has just dealt a soon-to-be-fatal blow to Internet radio stations that broadcast commerical music. It's a pretty bad situation, e.g., if you're in a band and/or releasing songs, and thinking that getting them promoted through Internet radio stations is a good thing. There's ...

Yeah, it was really awesome. A lot of people not on the list got in, but it was a totally full house, and they definitely turned people away, too. I was suprised to learn that there are so many examples of the Beatles, from the beginning, recording some parts (e.g., guitar and piano riffs) at half s...
