Re: Tentolometer? (ATR - Tension)
Cary's procedure is exactly right for all JH tape machines (MCI/Sony). Most machines are not as user friendly as the MCI's, though. Remember, w/ a tentelometer, you must calibrate the tentelometer w/ the weight and the tape your going to measure. Like a VU meter, the further you go from the calibrat...

Get the Sony. It doesn't require you as much as the MCI does. SS

Randall, this is not Randy B., this is Steve S. I'm sure Randy will find a way in. You can go to blevinsaudio.com and e-mail him, or call. He's in and out of here most days. SS

Take it from someone who's been searched between his toes. These days, ship overnight or 2nd day Fed-ex/UPS. Travel light. I'm ready to send my shaving kit UPS just so my checked luggage isn't questioned. IMO SS

None of us have tickets. Contact a Guitar exhibitor and tell them it's the only way you'll buy, and you want a new guitar (from them) desperately. Even John (@ tapeop) is expecting us to take him to girly shows and alternative rock concerts w/out having extra tickets to give us. SS

Re: Why is this happening to me??? (60 cycle hum?)
So, there is no hum when the wall wart strip is turned off? And there is no hum when the strip is on w/ no wall warts plugged in? And the hum increases w/ each wall wart plugged in? Or, do some wall warts cause the hum and some don't? Or, some cause hum when plugged in one way, but not when reversed...

Re: old tapes gumming on heads
There is no way to "re-lubricate" the tape. It's sounds to me as though the tape wasn't "baked" properly in the first, and second instance. Your actually de-hydrating the tape, and it's a long process which must be done under specific controls. SS

Re: old tapes gumming on heads
You'll find that tape from the '50's and '60's and even in to the mid to late '7o's will not have this problem. In the mid to late '70's, there was a moritorium on Whale fishing. As a result, Whale blubber was no longer used in the "binding" solution. A petroleum based solution was used as the repla...

I suggest you DON'T use heat shrink. When the Hi/Lo, or Hi/shld, or Lo/shld short because one loose strand broke free, I'll be able to collect boo-coo bucks from you to resolve your console I/O module/ tape machine problem. Please, save pennies, spend dollars. SS
