If you do anything other than dish soap, and water, or 409, don't tell anyone you did it, exept not to do that.

Thanks for the good words, Pathetic Banjo....Man. It's all so very simple and easy: The MCI factory doesn't exist. I was Senior Service Eng. for Tape Machines. Talking to me is like calling the factory. It's $200.00 for unlimited phone and E-mail (Skype for you Euro's) assist, from Jan. 1, to Jan. 1...

Re: Pulling out the old 4 track...

Gevermil...Dude: I don't worry!!.....That shit makes you old. Demag a cap? HHHHHHHHHmmmmmmmmmm.....I don't think there's a paper on that. Now, setting the levels just below distortion, ...that's documented and called "that guitar effect". Or, technically,....tape saturation. Ok, Brian, ...that's bet...

Re: Pulling out the old 4 track...

Don't get too hyped.....it's a consumer deck, but it is high end consumer. And lucky for you, I have two in my warehouse, so it can be repaired.

Re: MCI JH

No more questions, then? Great. I'm going down to Daytona w/ Randy B. on Thurs. Morn, and won't be back till ...whenever. So All the MCI/Sony's are Tip Top, no Prob's. That's great, .....

See you in the Funny Papers, or TapeOpCon2k5 which-ever comes first.

Re: Pulling out the old 4 track...

Blow it out w/ an air compresser @ about 120 Ppsi. Clean all the metal guides and heads w/ alcohol, clean rubber w/ 409, or another household cleaning product, and then water. don't get anything into any bearings. Take the back cover off and check the belts. The may be dry rotted by now. Have fun. SS

Re: MCI JH

Nacho: The JH16 and JH24 Repro heads are NOT interchangeable. If you use the JH16 heads on the JH24, DON'T connect the Repro Head. You'll have to mix off the Sync Head. Remove the four Allen Screws and just unplug the head connectors. The connectors are keyed and can't be plugged in upside down. Tra...

Re: MCI JH

Psychic: Are you sure it's a JH24, and not JH16 audio? The randomness is do to relay timing, and the r/c timing of the command. So you have a mix of slower -v- faster relays, and slower -v- faster relay enable commands. To minimize the problem, match the relays to the channels, replace some relays, ...

Re: The 20 Year Rule

There were no CD's in '80 or '81. If there were, they would have sounded like Crap. 3.5" floppy's were unknown at that time. Any (IBM) computer programs were on 5 1/4" floppy's. You had to have one for the Op.Sys., and another for the program, and another for the data. If you were "State of the Art"...

Re: MCI JH

John: You blew a 2N3055 in the Chimney. ( take the fan assy. out (= four, push-in, 1\4 turn left, knurled knobs). Take the heatsink/s out and measure the 2N3055 pass xstr's. Replace as necessarry.

LADewd: I think I wrote a tech memo on that. Research the Archives.
