TL Audio VP-2051 ?

I have a TL Audio VP-2051 "Voice Processor" a good buddy gave me some years ago when it first came out. To be honest, i never got into the 'all in one' pre/compressor/eq units, and didn't really use this. I'm just wondering if anyone has this unit and what they think of it, street value, etc? Damn, ...

Tape Op isn't free. Ads pay for its existence. The companies who pay for the ads are in essence paying you, the reader, to check out their stuff, by taking care of your subscription. So, it's costing you your time, dear reader, not that you're not getting something for your time, which is worth mone...

yes, I am thinking of the Shiny Box, too. I am impressed with the build quality of the Fat Head mic as well as the sound.

cascade Fat Head Ribbon mic

Hey, the pair came yesterday, and WOW, they are fantastic. I've been working on guitars all week long, and just have used the standard 57 on any number of really good amps (Matchless Lightning 210, marshall bluesbreaker '62, '53 Fender Tweed Deluxe, etc...) We immediately noticed a difference, a see...

Cascade Fat Head Ribbon mic

Hi Y'all. At a friend's recommendation, I just bought a pair of Cascade Fat Head ribbon mics. My buddy, a well-respected LA/Nashville engineer is blown away by these mics, particularly when you can pick them up for $300/pair. At $300, I am willing to take a gamble. Any comments on these? Thanks, and...

I have a '62 Hammond B3, and am a purist when it comes to that tone- it's hard to replicate. I've owned the newer Hammonds- they gave me 2 XB2 s a few years ago. No dice. The B4 is pretty amazing. When I went out this past January with Buddy Miller, we knew we weren't going to have any Hammonds at t...

Fort Worth Studios?

I've posted this on the studio message board, as well, but does anyone out there know of a good Protools room in the Fort Worth area, with a good mic selection (vocals) and a few good pres to choose from? I'm going down there in February, and need a place to work for a day. I will probably just reco...

Fort Worth TX Studios?

I have to be in Texas soon to record a vocal, and I'm looking for a decent Protools room (LE is fine) with a great mic selection and a few good pres. I won't need an engineer, although I will need a second to help set up. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Phil

Re: Mic review..AKG D112

I've found this combo to be nice: On a 20" Gretsch kick, an Audix D6 just inside a 6" hole in the front head, pointing towards the center of the batter head. Positioned next to the Gretsch is a 26" ludwig BD with calf heads as a resonant drum. In front of that, I use the D112, picking up all the nic...

Re: Universal Audio Tube Mic Preamp

I've had a Universal 2-610 for about 18 months, bought from Calistro Music in Connecticutt for a good price. This is a beautiful preamp for vocals, amps, ac/gtrs, kick drum, etc. I it's DI for Keys and bass. If I were you, I would consider getting a pair (2-610) or if you don't require a pair, then ...

Re: Really good mastering

I've used a few mastering engineers over the years- Doug Sax, Hank Williams, Ken Love. Buddy Miller mastered a record for me a few years back when I needed a favor- even though he's not a true mastering guy, he did a great job and made me look good. The 'go to guy' for my work has become Jim DeMain ...

shock mount replacement parts ?

Ok, here's the deal- I've got an AT 4033 mic, bought it when they just came out, and it's served me well, especially before I got a few things that surpassed it. The shockmount is in tact, BUT it needs new elastics. They're totally shot. I went to AT's site, and even emailed them for info, and it wa...

Re: Monitors: NS-10's?

NS-10s are the most commonly used speaker among A&R people and in studios. It's not so much that they sound great; it's more to do with that anything that sounds good on them will sound great on anything else. Yes, the low end is tricky, but I think that after a while you figure out where it sits. O...
