Should I be afraid of slot loading ?
This is a slight rewording of my previous question--but I think it's more to the point. Should I worry about a CD recorder that I plan to buy having 'slot loading' rather than the little tray that whooshes out to take the cd. Is one more dangerous or apt to have problems? Many thanks for the sharing...

Any recommendations for a new CDR recorder?
My old Phillips is starting to act up a bit.
I'm looking at that Tascam cdrw900sl.
The only thing that scares me is that it is 'slot loading' rather than tray loading....hmmmm, that just sounds like problems to me. I may be wrong.
Any thoughts?
Thank you in advance!

try junglewebs.com
A friend of mine runs a business called juglewebs.com
He's had it for a number of years now.
I've registered multiple domains with him. So have many people I know.
He's reliable, helpful (and thankfully) reasonably priced.
Give it a try.

Do those sharpie pens hurt the CDR's?
OK, this fear goes back some years. For a while the Maxell blank CDR's came with their very own colored felt pin marker that was supposed to *not* hurt the CDR in any way. Now, my little pens are running out of ink. Is it ok for me to use a standard sharpie on CDR's? or does some hidden element in t...

Should I be scared of 'slot' loading CD recorders?
I'm looking at possibly replacing my old CDR recorder.
It's a Phillips --about 12 years old, and is starting to have some issues.
I'm looking at the Tascam 990sl.
BUT, it has a 'slot' loading thing instead of the tray.
Are slots better or worse (oh geez, is that a straight line, or what?)?

CD laser cleaning discs..ever use one? are they good? bad?
I've seen them occassionaly in stores.
I've never seen anyone use one.
Are those laser cleaning discs important?
Should you use one periodically?
Are there dangers?
Do they improve fidelity or just the tracking of the disc?
Are they a voodoo sham?
Thanks for any info!

right.
it's not a heckuva lotta money. But it does help! It's enough to kind of finance some of my own music stuff without dipping into the "family budget". ---I just wanna do it right. I do tend to 'under' price my stuff...and the balance there is....don't wanna ask toooo much and have them just go with s...

Advise on how much to charge for TV show music.
Hello! I do the music for a local TV show that is produced and aired by the local PBS affilliate. For the last 2 years, I've liscensed the music to them. I've made about 18 hundred dollars per year for the first two years. They're going into their third year. They've been picked up by two other PBS ...

Thanks
Thanks, I'm mixing a song where I'm putting the entire drum mix through a bit of compression ( have one of those RNC's). I often use compression on vocals and when recording acoustic string instruments, but haven't done this before. I remember the article sort of describing the dangers of sucking th...

Which issue was the "bad compression" article in?
There was a recent TapeOp issue with a little side-bar bit about 'bad compression'---does anyone remember which issue this was?
I know it's lying in my pile o' tapeops somewhere.
Like...what was on the cover?
Thanks in advance to anyone with a good memory!

sm57 vs. 57beta (have you tried this?)
here's my experience at comparing the two...anyone have a different experience?(short version: except for the extra wind-protection on the beta...they sounded very very similair) Ok, so I recieved a 57beta for Christmas. (thanks Santa!) I've used regular 57s for recording for a long time now--mostly...

Where to find home stereo speakers?
Sorry that this is a bit off topic, but you folks seem to know this stuff. I need to replace the speakers in my home stereo system. Not the whole box and all....just the 'woofers'---the paper is old and torn at the edges. Is there an online hi-fi place that sells such things? We only have boxstores ...
