Try looking up

Amphenol 91Mc3M

DigiKey may even have that connector. I have a couple of them here, somewhere.

I always thought the Elvis mic was this one - the bigger 55C - definitely a dynamic.

Rick has done an outstanding job jumpstarting the do it yourself ribbon mic activity of late. BTW here is a link to the Roswellite video mentioned above. It gets hit with actually more than 48V about 50 times, but just snaps back. Those of you who have hands-on experience with ribbons will know that...

Great picture. I'd be concerned about AC line faults along the way, and improper grounding. Someone in the studio might get zorched. IMHO proper design grounds the cold end of the ribbon, so there cannot be significant potential difference between ribbon and magnet/frame/case, but the ribbon could c...

Thanks for reading the blog, and I hope my rambling wasn't too long. Rotating the mic does reverse the phase. So, to restore it, flip the phase switch. When listening to your own voice while wearing headphones, it is in my opinion pretty important to switch the phase when comparing the back vs the f...

A thorough answer to all these questions and the stories behind them will probably take up this whole page! Rather than hijack the thread, I'm going to post an answer on http://microphonium.blogspot.com over the weekend and when I do I will put the link here. Thanks for the nice comments about the m...

I think that was our friend and dealer Warren Dent at Front End Audio, in a comment in gearslutz. Warren is a very good guy. The back of the Naked Eye is exactly 180 degrees out of phase with the front, but there isn't a a hole unless someone forgets the phase switch. http://microphonium.blogspot.co...

Yes and Charles Dodge's "The Earth's Magnetic Field" (Nonesuch Records) is another interesting one although one listen is enough for me. I have it here in the lab with my Morton Subotnick albums.

Having it touch your skin won't ground it out but it will change things, maybe make them better. I would avoid it at least at first and see if capacitive coupling through the skin works because that would be cool. Yeah I get all the suspicious looks around here with my antennas and portable gear - I...

I'd make it out of wood or something nonconductive. Actually if you make a circly loop sort of like a little bird's nest, wrap it around and around, you can just use the wire to support itself if you want. Even a paper cup is a good coil form. Give it some diameter - maybe a couple of inches or thre...

Suggest the following 20+ turn wire loop about 3 inches in diameter, Connect both ends to the 8 Ohm side of a radio shack 8 Ohm to 1 K Ohm $2.98 transformer. Connect the other two leads (clip out the middle) to a phono lug into a little preamp or headphone amp. That will make a directional loop with...
