Re: Rock n' Roll Inventions (documentary)

In the grunge daze, Gary Numan was kinda a punchline, along with mebbe Thos. Dolby. But when he re-invented/expanded with Reznor, I became a big fan. His last 3-4 records are terrific. Then I went back and got I, Assassin , the one with Pino - respect. (That one made me go and get Paul Young ...) A...

That looks like good fun. I'm going to see if I can get it through DirecTV.
Yeah, I signed up for CBS to binge the latest Star Trek: Discovery. This one is through the "Smithsonian Channel", whatever that is. Hopefully you can find it free somewhere. Saw about 3 or 4 episodes last night.

Rock n' Roll Inventions (documentary)

Watching this one on CBS All Access at the moment, pretty good. (they got Gary Numan, so I'm a little biased).

What does going through a DI into your interface buy you, vs. straight in?

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I don't like Behringer's business model, nor welcome calls from Sweetwater sales, but they're selling pedals for $19 and free shipping at the moment. Ordered a Super Fuzz, if it is ever in stock, and sounds close enough, I'll have a reason to sell my Univox.

Recording The Beatles book - fyi

I still haven't read this one (bought 10 or 11 years ago), noticed the crazy prices they are selling for ($500-700?). I've read nothing but praise for it, maybe I should read, sell, and wait for a budget reissue/reprint?

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....

but i've since switched to short scale (and lighter) basses, and this thing just hangs on the wall and i never play it. i'd love to keep it for sentiment, but it's worth too much and i'm broke. I've been thinking about looking for a bass guitar strictly on ergonomics - I still have shoulder damage ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Just ordered this little thing off eBay: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/sW0AAOSwPuNfzBVo/s-l1600.jpg Ah, the Ashbory. Look around and there's much cheaper ways to re-string if it comes to that, I read somewhere. Surgical tubing, mebbe? I have the same color Ashbory. I put these on about a year ago,...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Does a furnace count? If so....... A new furnace!!!! Came home to a cold house. Apparently vintage is not a word that carries good connotations when you're talking HVAC. Just had a similar "gear" purchase, some "module" that controls the blower motor. Our high efficiency furnace was installed 10 ye...

Or even just some stories of studio hijinks/band behavior... Wait, maybe that's more "Creem" than "Tape Op".

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I got a volume/expression pedal from ebay recently (and a stereo cable to use for the "expression" input on several pedals I already own). Not the most bulletproof construction, but it was ~ $25. The Boss AW-3 (Dynamic Wah) made some interesting speech-like noises (one of the modes has the sound var...
