Re: Finding your voice (and sticking with it)

Some forums hate this being done, but... <bump>. Some great thoughts here.

Songwriting: Jeff Tweedy book "How To Write One Song"

I just finished this (found at my newly discovered public library), there are a lot of great ideas in here. I am not very familiar with Wilco or his other projects, but the book isn't necessarily just for fans. It's not too wordy, either. I have been doing the "RPM Challenge" for 17 years now, and a...

Re: List your Bandcamp page

RPM Challenge 2024 entry. The 17th year in a row for us. I think I need a more committed fake band. Dusted off my Rickenbacker 362/12, played a few new plugin synths, and used a new EV RE30 mic. Ocarina and marimba in there somewhere too. And Milton bell. https://f4.bcbits.com/img/a0551340435_14.jpg

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Can you share what you got? I just got an EV RE20 mic, it's about 4 lbs, my cheap stand's boom is hard to get tight enough not to rotate under the weight. I am undecided on tripod vs. heavy base, but would definitely like a better "boom tightening" mechanism. Tama Iron Works Studio series. The last...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Just bought a bunch of mic stands and boy was I rethinking my life choices when it came time to push "complete order" and saw the total. Anyways. They're nice. I'm sick of bullshit cheap stands that sag and rattle and break every other session. Can you share what you got? I just got an EV RE20 mic,...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Electro-Voice RE20 mic. I finally have a better than budget mic. I guess I’ll use it on everything for now. I wonder what I sound like?
I was going to buy a used or open box one on GC’s site, but chatting with the rep, he said he could sell a new one cheaper than the used one I was looking at. Sold.

Re: Tell us about your 2023 wrap-up

I changed day jobs (contracting, I/T or whatever the kids call it now) in July, left a ton of stress behind, for a w2 gig at a better rate. It was fully work at home for the first 3 or 4 months, but now switching to 3 days a week in Chicago (a mild PITA to get to). No music gigs for 4 years now, I s...

Beatles "Red" and "Blue" album remixes with MAL (especially the early 2 or 4 track stuff, now spread out into stereo).

Re: I bought a CD!

I bought the CD a local one-man guitarist was selling. Haven't listened yet. Beatles Revolver remix box set. A recent-ish Gary Numan album from his site. I need to do a little better. I'd like to have a version of my Sony Discman D-9 that still works (and maybe with Bluetooth and supporting mp3 and ...

Re: Happy Black Friday! Did you get anything?

Binged on plug-ins, since I finally have no fear of filling up my MBP's built in drive: - Native Instruments Komplete Audio 2 (interface) - somehow the price on this interface with "Komplete Select 14" software is the same as just the price of Komplete Select 14 by itself, so I have an extra interfa...

Korg's Fumio Mieda

A name I didn't know, but he's had a big influence on electronic instruments:

Black Friday discount on Arturia plugins - I got the V Collection 9 for about 1/3 regular price with prior purchase credit: https://www.arturia.com/products/software-instruments/v-collection/overview 33 soft synths (or 32 plus an 'all in one'). Re: Cheap USB interface with ADAT?

Is a Scarlett 18i8 in your budget? I have the 2nd gen version, have never used the ADAT / optical input.
https://us.focusrite.com/products/scarlett-18i8

It looks like the first and second gens also have the optical input.
