Re: Guided By Voices on Conan Tonight !! (Thursday)

Yeah, I guess you never know for sure but I didn't smell anything fishy. I've seen GBV a ton of times, and it pretty much sounded like they always do live. I definitely didn't notice anything going on weird vocally... just typical Bob being Bob. I guess what I meant by "it even sounded good" was tha...

I also use the Sony MDR-7506s and have for years. I'm pretty damn used to them now.

Re: GbV RiP

Yeah, I've been big into GBV for a long time and I'm not really TOO bummed about this. I was kinda partial to the "tobin" era myself anyway. I think this will actually give Bob a chance to come up with some truly epic shit. Personally, I think his "solo" stuff has been a little more up my alley late...

Re: Songs-U-love...but STILL haven't managed to track down

I don't really know a whole lot about them, i just remembered seeing them on that soundtrack (haven't even seen the movie...hehe, there are enough "valley girl" types around here in person). Sorry I can't be more help. I remember liking their stuff when we played that show with em' if that counts fo...

I'm sure people will take him seriously, hes an old school tape-opper with a great reputation and has worked on some great stuff. Oh, not trying to be a dick BTW. :)

Re: Songs-U-love...but STILL haven't managed to track down

Hmmm. I remember playing a show with "the smokin' popes" here in San Diego (early-mid 90s). They were cool enough guys. I think they crashed at our house after the show and I'm sure we drank all night. Those years are fuzzy memories.:) Looks like they have a song called "Need You Around" on the "Clu...

Yeah, I've got one of those and I like it also. Nothing too ultra-special about it, but nothing really bad about it either. It'll definitely get the job done.

Re: search for "magnetic fields" = 5000 matches

There was a nice Interview with Stephen Merritt in TapeOp #38 (nov/dec 2003) if you can get your hands on it. As far as his setup goes, it consisted of a 24-channel Mackie board, adatHD24, sm57s and 58s for vocals (and most everyting else), and a g4 w/Logic for editing.
