To clarify: the tom is already recorded <-- problem. I'm looking for some type of signal chain that might help.

Flr Tom Overtones

Anyone have any tips on killing extraneous overtones on a boomy floor tom? I know this is probably tough w/o hearing a sample, I'll work on posting one. In the mean time, any and all tips would be great. The tom just decays forever and sounds muddy with everything else.

So what if it's a one-guitar band that doesn't want to sound weak on tape? :D

Thanks for all the quick replies :D I was just curious because my buddy recorded me playing some guitar parts - close to identical parts on two different amps, with a couple mics on each amp - and he was hard panning one mic and leaving the other one closer to center. I don't really like the idea of...

'nother vote for our band could be your life. also, another vote for Nick Hornby (specifically, High Fidelity). Not sure how scientific you're getting, but I've been told the book This Is Your Brain On Music is just great. Good luck.

First off - great to see some central Illinoisians on here :) [ps - marc, i've heard great things about your place] From a kid's perspective, here are my three: Braid - Frame and Canvas (nothing too crazy here, just my favorite band/record) Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (the loft they wrote in looked...

Yeah I stumbled accross mine when my buddy's sister was moving out of her apartment and didn't want it. She told us if we got it out of there it was mine. Pretty good deal if you ask me.

Definately not a Leslie - it's just a rotating baffle (I think) built into the organ itself. No external cab. I wish I had the organ with me so I could look for sure  I'm just trying to get some research done for a session in the future.

Yeah, I'm not so much trying to stereo mic the speaker, I just want to catch that natural tremolo. The organ allows me to use just the rotating speaker with the stationary speaker turned off - should I still try those techniques you suggested?

Micing a rotating speaker

How would you guys go about recording an old Yamaha electric organ with a rotating speaker? Type of mic, placement, etc.? Or would you not bother micing the rotating speaker at all and just stick a mic on the stationary one? Thanks much.

Yeah, the Stiletto sounds amazing. That ACE Combo is really really nice. About the switch stuff, if I was plugging the Mesa into the Bandit's speaker I would only be using the Mesa at that time - there would never be a case where the Mesa head would be on while the speaker was disconnected. The setu...

Amp conversion

Ok, I'd like to install a three way selector switch on a Peavey Bandit 112. The switch will be in between the 'amp' and the speaker. I would like the switch to do three things (duh): The first position would set the amp basically to 'factory settings' with the included amp powering the included spea...

Thank you so much. :) Yeah, I forgot to go back and change that part about the tube being a voltage regulator instead of calling a beam amp. Again, thanks a ton.
