chure! I posted this on gearslutz almost exactly a year ago - my opinions are the same a year later - I don't use it all the time, but it's nice on some vocals, some acoustic guitar and definitely on electric guitar and bass. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/low-end-theory/569035-art-pro-channel-users...

well, I've got the Aphex 109 and I never use it - it's on the harsh side of clean - maybe because of that tube jammed into the circuitry. My DBX 242 always wins.

I've got two of these. I keep one "flat" and one with all the switches flipped except the "hi" one. They're really useful on a bunch of things - any high, twinkly strings, even some vocals. Good find for $20 - I paid $60 for my two, coming with the windscreens, cables and a nifty Shure plastic case....

would you say the 642 is quieter than a dbx 242? I know orban had a hand in that one.

for the fact that if your client starts researching and sees your recommendation of a Behringer is hated in many circles he may question your opinion, you'd do him and yourself a solid by reco'ing a small soundcraft unit - http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Notepad102 they're cheap, they sound g...

I've got a Pro Channel and that's not normal. I think the other posters have given you your answer.

I got the modded Pro Channel back from Vince a couple weeks ago - I'll post some samples in the next few days - the changes are really unusual - the mic transformer built into the opto compressor has the unusual effect of broadening the frequency response when you crush a signal - to the point where...

Jeff is a great guy - showed me some of his prototypes he's working on in his "laboratory". The VCA he's working on will be incredible. I'm also toying with getting one of his mic preamps - didn't have one there to listen to, but the few reviews I've seen say it's got an old EMI sound to it.

WAAAYY good unit. more subtle than you'd expect from the descriptions on GS, it does great things to a drum buss and can sound kinda nice as a saturation effect on a two buss. very versatile - smetimes you can't even hear it until you A/B it. Jeff is developing a wilder version for me right now - wi...

just put a Raytheon 12AX7A into the preamp section and a Valvo ECC83 into the final gain stage. The "2-D" sound of the Pro Channel is now gone. And a Sylvania 12AU7 sounds real pretty in the preamp stage, just lower gain.

HA! He's quite the jolt on the phone. In person - THAT must be entertainment! If i wasn't on the other side of the country, I'd be there all the time. I'm thinking of picking up his TPS mod. I betcha he could do some wild stuff to your VLA.

as an extra thought - I've been rolling tubes into this thing since I got it - Vince says that the original tubes work very well, especially when the modded machine is calibrated for them. While this is true, I have found certain tubes definitely DO enhance the 2nd harmonic effect. AX7's work best (...

Art Pro Channel - modded into something really different!

I posted this at another forum, but some people on here were waiting to hear about this so... I?ve had a Pro Channel for about 6 years now and dang ? it comes SO CLOSE to what I wish the thing could do. BUT it sounds flat ? 2D-ish. I?ve researched possible mods, but there really have been none. Chan...
