Re: Hammond Fluid Column Reverb

I've got one of those in my garage that needs some TLC! I think I paid $.99 on ebay (plus like $30 shipping...). Mine was oil-free when I got it, also. My understanding is you can refill with mineral oil from the pharmacy if you need to. If it's dark already, then there might not be much need. The c...

Re: Tannoy Service and Spare Parts?

So to post my (thankfully positive) findings. I started with Full Compass - they told me that they used to be a Tannoy spare parts distributor, but that changed after the Music Tribe acquisition. B&H said similar. So I signed up with the Music Tribe support portal, and opened a ticket. The ticket sy...

Re: Business entities for studio work

I'll agree with the above. A trustworthy accountant is probably more important than the specific structure of your business (at least for an audio business with a single owner that you intend to keep - very different if you're starting a tech company that you want to push to IPO...) A knowledgable a...

Re: Mixing Headphones

The recording that I did that reached the broadest audience was mixed on AKG K240s.

They currently retail for about half of what they used to.

Any p-funk thing with the fake-out fade. Fades out, almost to nothing, then fades back in for a minute or so!

Re: Another dreaded clocking thread

... the Orion seemed to suffer considerably when clocked to the Burl. Is something misconfigured in that case? Or just broken? I'd expect similar results with the clocking running in either direction. What was the mode of suffering experienced? Or was it a subjective analysis/confirmation bias at w...

Re: Cymbals/How far to go

Younger me could have done it...of course I was into RUDEs and first gen Z's, where there's not much difference between the hats and small crashes. They're all pretty clanky. These days, I want crashes that speak, then get out of the way, typically larger and thinner than my hats. I'd be more likely...

Tannoy Service and Spare Parts?

Does anyone have experience dealing with post-acquisition Tannoy?

I've got a sinking feeling that I need a new tweeter diapraghm.

Should I start by calling the ol' standbys (Full Compass or Sweetwater), or by reaching out to the Music Tribe mothership?

Re: can anybody identify this tape machine??

Deduction, my dear Warson. It's got 24 red lights across it, so it's a 24 track. Most 24 tracks are the size of washing machines (well, except maybe Stevens), not lil' rackmounted things like that (and it's clearly not a Stevens). It looks like it's got 1" reels on it. Looks like 456, too. So that l...

Re: Mod a Soundcraft Spirit Pro Tracker ?

Any chance at some photos? My gut feeling is that any switch-mode supply that old is easier to just replace. Switch mode stuff has come a ways since then - the state of the art moved up. Linear supplies are typically pretty predictable, and easier to repair. An outboard supply will likely be superio...

Re: Mod a Soundcraft Spirit Pro Tracker ?

Do you know the voltages/currents it's producing? It might be marked on the board, or you might be able to lookup the regulators. Are there fuses on the internal rails? I'd assume +/- 15 (or 17, being Soundcraft), and +48V. Anything else, like a 5V or 12V? Power One linear units are still an obvious...

Re: True Systems precision8 led issues?

Did this one come from Colorado, by chance?

There was one for a steal on local CL that's not there any longer. I'd been considering it myself, but it it's a basket case, probably best to steer clear.
