Re: True Systems precision8 led issues?

Did this one come from Colorado, by chance?

There was one for a steal on local CL that's not there any longer. I'd been considering it myself, but it it's a basket case, probably best to steer clear.

Re: True Systems precision8 led issues?

If you're in there, get some closeup photos of the guts!

I'd imagine the metering is a quad opamp per channel, wired as a string of comparators. So either the signal into it is funny, or the reference voltage is.

Re: Isolating Vocals when Recording with DI Electric Guitar

The 520 is more akin to an RE20 (pretty sure that's why it's got a *20 in the name). Billet-machined son-of-a-gun.

For an inexpensive fig-8, keep an eye open for the MXL ribbons. They're the MF deal-of-the-day occasionally, I think under $100 when they pop up.

Re: DIY DI full range guitar questions

Agree with both of the above. If you want to work simply and quickly, do that. And a clean DI can be a lifesaver if the electronics get out of control. Are you trying to capture everything 100% live, or are you open to overdubbing? Sometimes that allows you to dial in different sounds more accuratel...

Re: Not Really Recording Related but.....

Wasn't that the endgame of corporate rock? To not just have an in-demand band, but a band that could open franchises?

Re: New Barn Studio build out

One of the better basic soundproofing references is free: USG Soundproofing Reference . The materials it uses are commodities, available nearly anywhere. I'm also a big fan of Philip Newell's books, but they're not as hands-on as Gervais', and full of materials that don't exist in North America. But...

Re: ADVICE: send in my re20 or fix myself?

So what does an RE-20 refurb run? I've got an ancient one that could also probably use it.

(Anyone know what Sennheiser charges for refurb work? Also also got a 441 that could use it, too).

Re: Footswitch questions for Subwoofers (DIY 2.1 sub-bypass)

I believe you want a latching switch. Quick experiment - get a guitar cable and a paper clip. Plug one end into the footswitch jack, then use the paperclip to join the tip and sleeve at the other end. If it's one way when the clip is touching, and the other way when it's not, that would indicate a l...

Re: Anybody bought anything from "Audiosavings"?

They have an "about us" that apparently isn't linked from the homepage: https://www.audiosavings.com/about-us/

And it's still pretty cagey. No address, no area code.

Google autocompleted "Is Audiosavings legit?"

They're also apparently on ebay, with a 98.4% positive over 700k transactions.

Once you've got a sense of what new ones sell for, you can recognize bargains when they crop up in CL/MGR/Pawnshop...

...but bigger hats are kinda oddball, and don't show up as often as 14"s do. Grab 'em when you see 'em.

They look a bit Jerry-inspired, but they're not Jerry's so nobody was interested at the time.

Put the Guild B-series, Gibson S-1 and some early Kramers in the same bucket. Great guitars that had a stronger second-hand life.

I seem to recall you sent me a care package with some of that stuff years ago!

I could always use a few more of the male 28-pin connectors, to make service harnesses...

Also, find yourself a source of the little screws that hold the backplate on the modules (M3?). You will strip a number of them in the process.
