Donated my MX5050 to a school...

This week, I donated my old Otari MX5050-8 (along with the MRL) to the high school where one of my friends teaches a media production class. He was telling me that the kids think that anything analog - like cassette tape - has that "superior phat analog sound" So now, maybe they can learn all the aw...

I have a British book from 1961 called 'The Manual of Sound Recording'

It has a picture of "microphones typically available to the engineer"

U47, C12, M49, stereo C24, STCs...... yeah, typical stuff.

The only time I recorded vibes, I used a pair of SDCs (Octava MC012's) in a coincident pair right over the middle of the thing, about 3' up. Sounded great, with a nice stereo spread. However, also caught the wheezing and sniffles of the player, who had a cold at the time. So maybe add some Claritin ...

if that thing passes clear audio, c'mon man - duct tape it together! Bust off the clip part of an sm57 mic cliip and duct tape the rest on there and you're all set!

If you really want to make a professional repair to it, use gaffer's tape instead of duct tape.

Flatwounds + B15 FTW A lot of the really inventive Motown electric bass stuff that is commonly thought to be Jamerson is actually Bob Babbitt. What a great space! Temp fluctuations are gonna be murder on your instruments' ability to hold tune, keep that in mind. from the Wiki about Neil Young's album, "Harvest": "Mixing was done at both Quadrafonic and at Young's house. During playback at the ranch, Mazer ran the left channel into the PA s...

My first post reflected some non-audio tools I have in my studio, but I guess the OP could also be interested in actual audio stuff, so here goes: Accurate tuner (like the Peterson. They have an iPhone app!) A high quality DI box. Radial makes a bunch of different ones, or you can make your own at d...

But for actuall connection points, like edge connectors, socketed ic's, the pins in an XLR or the contact points in the patch b...

I've seen that same M147 on Craigslist. My first thought was that it was very likely stolen by someone who didn't know enough about it to also steal the power supply, and I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
